I've also done lots of crafty things: knitting, painting, photography, pottery,...and the list goes on. In art school, I was exposed to many unusual mediums as well. I've made gold and silver jewelry with gemstones, papier mache, among others.

that is too funny. I know that making one cake a week with the cake classes can really get you.:)

I've dabbled with knitting (I can only make long scarfs :p ), but other than lots of sewing and embroidery, I don't have time for anything else.

At least it was a fun class and I went with a good friend. One we finished the cake classes, we moved into gourmet cooking, then quilting. (I guess we need to keep our hands busy). I found embroidery strictly by accident. It was a GREAT accident.

I've done so many things that it's hard to remember them all. The lists started way back in grade school with decopaging everything I could get my hands on. LOL I think I've tried pretty much everything now and yes, even cake decorating finishing with the class on wedding cakes. After three class sections of basic, intermediate, and then advanced plus candy making, my family would run when I had to make another cake for my classes. They were SOOOOOOOOoo sick of cakes. LOL I had to resort to delivering them to our local fire station where those guys were very happy to take my class projects.

I have done a little of a lot. Now I am into my machine embroidery of course, and stained glass, wood working, and mosaics. I am in the process of rebuilding a miniature doll house from the ground up. I love to work with my miniatures. I have sold a couple of my completed projects but it really hurts to do that.:bawling: I think this is the most fun of the project because I get to be destructive and act out that inner anger that is there somewhere.:D

I picked up counted cross stitch in elementary school and would go in spurts on and off again all the way until 2000 or so... I REALLY want to scrapbook, but time and money is an issue there - not to mention that I need someone to hold my hand and walk me through everything- there are SO many options!

I've dyed silk scarves for kids to have playsilks.

I recently started making felt food- you can see pics here. (http://www.embroidables.com/forums/showthread.php?t=648) There are pics, including a slide show, throughout the thread.

As a kid, I oil painted with my Grama (who DD Corinne is named after), but never pursued it- was more of a fun thing with Grama. :)

In my stash i have scrapbooking, sewing, candy making, cake decorating, beading, knitting, candle making, ceramics, painting, ummmm I think thatsit. I want to get back into making miniature dollhouses again once my kids are much older.

i've tried cross stitch when i'm younger. as i'm rather hot tempered, i cannot sit down whole day doing cross stitch. end up giving up the hobby. Then there's the baking. I bake pineapple tarts, mooncakes (chinese festive items) and a lot. I went to attend classes for baking. After i realised that they are bad because they have trans fat or hmn some unhealthy substance, i gave up.

Then i was into crystals making. buy those swaroski crystals and make simple bracelets etc.

so now i'm on embroidery. and i really envy u guys from US because u have a lot of people into handicrafts etc and there's supplies of items. i just called local medeira and they dont sell so much items compared to US. they supplied mainly to industrial factories/companies.

Knitting is also quite popular in my country but the thing is, i dont know why there's anyone interested in it because we can hardly ever use them. (temperature here varies frm 28 to 34degree celsius whole yr)...... so i'm glad i never pick up knitting.

Its a local doing cakes n breads etc (whatever u can think of) for HOBBY. She baked a lot of things and i always wonder who is going to finish them. Then, i dont really mind staying near to her and then get some cakes as and when she has too many to give out hehehe.

She lived in landed property (over here, we dont really stay in landed as its expensive) and she has big ovens found in shops etc for her baking.

You sound like me as I've done quite a few different crafts over the years. I did cross-stitch when I was younger and my kids were very little. I loved doing it but it did take a lot of time and there were days where my eyes felt like they were going to cross on me forever. LOL

I also am/was very much into baking and other cooking things. I took a few classes too. I took the entire series for cake decorating and also a low fat cooking class that was really fun as well as two classes from a woman who was from Sicily. The two classes from here were a lot of fun; one being Italian cookies and the other was "pizza from scratch". The pizza class was awesome and gave me THE best recipe for sauce which can be used for pizzas or spaghetti. (now that I've mentioned that one, I just got hungry for that sauce again and may have to make it LOL) I'm actually one that loves baking and any kind of cooking. I did MUCH more before my knees both started giving me such terrible pain and now I really miss it but I can't stand long at all without terrible pain. :( VERY frustrating to not be able to do something you realy love and are a natural at like I am in the kitchen.

Anyway, with your knitting have you looked into making things that you don't have to wear since it's so warm? I've seen a lot of really cute purses and other things that you could knit if you like doing stuff like that.

yeah Vicki I absolutely love pizza...am a nut about it actually! you would think I was a kid...anyway...any chance you would share that recipe with us? I used to cross-stitch too but now I like this machine embroidery too much to fool with it plus to time consuming with little ones not to mention eye strain! I make Wilton cakes for b-days and wanted to make candles but hubby said no..he was afraid I would burn doen the house...lol gues he is glad i'm into this a safer hobby!

Sure I can share the sauce recipe. Give me a bit to get it on here. It's not like your normal sauce you get on pizza though I have to warn you. It's a chunky sauce with chunks of onion and tomotoes but really yummy.

You're welcome. I just realized I should have posted all the rest of the recipes for you too. Sooooo go check back there and you'll see the really good pizza recipe she gave us. It sounds VERY strange but it's SOOOOO good with the potatoes in it. Trust me ~ just make sure they are super thin.

I have tried a lot of crafts, knitting, counted cross stitch, quilting. I am always looking for something that I put down and pick up 3 weeks later and know where I am at. Teaching doesn't give me a lot of time to craft during the year. My mother, who is 89 and going strong, is trying to teach me how to crochet. You would think if I could knit with 2 needles, I could handle 1. Not so. I'm having a hard time with this one. Most of my crafts I taught myself through books. I am going to keep on trying. It will be something that I can remeber my mon taught me.

I've tried scrapbooking and jewelry making, but never really got into either. Got rid of most of that stuff actually.

If I want to scrap now I just do digi scrapping, which is much easier. And I just buy my jewelry. I think I'll just stick to sewing and embroidery.

Gosh there are so many. Quilting, Hand Applique, Stained Glass, but the main craft is soapmaking. I have been making soap for over 8 years and even have a small business--
Although, embroidery is right up there!

I have done: old fashioned hand embroidery, machine embroidery, Counted cross stitch, crocheting, I tried knitting (didn't like it), jewelry making, beading, wood crafts, scrap booking, regular machine sewing, quilting, stamping, I have made shaped crayons using soap molds, and other general crafts like making things from felt etc. Love them all - except knitting.
I do mostly sewing and embroidering now.

It seems like most of us who are sewers, are just "creative"! We can compliment ourselves!!!

I am more of the instant gratification type person, so a big quilt with lots of hand work is out of the question for me. I have tried cake decor, scrapbooking, soaps, and plastic canvas. I am not very crafty I have to admit.

He he, I had to laugh when I saw this thread. Like everyone else I have tried it all to my husbands chagrin. The funniest and funnest was cake decorating. I have a girlfriend that watches the cake shows and in Tulsa OK we have a huge national competition that last for a week and people from all over enter into it with their cakes and then they show it on Food network. Anyway, as a joke I found someone local that did the Wilton classes and signed us up for them. 5 years later she has a thriving cake business from home and entered the contest this year and she won second on one of her smaller cakes. Just had to brag and laugh as I shared my story.

Vicki is the cake decorator! My husband and I did classes about 10 or 12 years ago. He of course, was a hit because he was the only male in the class. We did it to just do birthday cakes, but with my RA, my hands and strength won't hold out. He has alot of steady pressure and was MUCH better that I. He has had alot of problems (since his surgeries) so we haven't done anything in quite awhile. But it was fun while it lasted.

The list is so strange that there are so many similarities (sp?) in everyones previous hobbies. I started off with cross stitch that I haven't done now for nearly seven years. Nowadays I am a really keen scrapbooker with machine embroidery and the occasional home furnishings chucked in. Hate cooking although I wish I didn't:confused: My big love apart from machine embroidery is scrapbooking.:D

good to see others who have the same "problem" as I do, into so many hands on projects, :-) I do everything from embriodery - both machine and by hand, painting, working with clay, tapestry, creating brochures, posters, business cards, ceramics, needlepoint, Crocheting, tatting, bobbin lace, weaving, sewing, drawing, photography, videography, molding, ceramics, jewelry making, set construction, and now starting into foam carving. actually took all the skills and turned them into a full service entertianment company - costumes, sets, and props. Which allows me to do all the hands on things that I love! Anyone out there who has done foam carving would love to get tips on how to get things to work!!!!!
