Why the cost discrepancy??

Hi there I have been investigating embroidery software through Ebay and the internet, and find that stuff that retails in the US for US$120 - 150 sells in Australia for the equivalent of US$410 -640. Similarly sewing machines are sooo much cheaper in the US? Anyone know why??

Maybe it could be the cost of shipping the machines so far? On the software, maybe that is supply and demand issue. There is a big demand for embroidery anything here in this area where I am. We also have some cheaper prices, as far as I have seen.

It could be import fees or export fees as well as shipping costs and whatever the difference due to currency exchange rates.
