I've debated a few times whether or not to start this thread, but it's driving me crazy so I have to. Anyone see Oprah yesterday about the transgender pregnant man? If so, what do you think?

NO! I turned that on in the last 10 minutes and missed the entire show. I was SO mad because I had no idea she got him on her show that fast. I had seen that a week ago on the news though.

I honestly don't know what to think Jami. I know that I just get a bit creeped out at the whole thing BUT, I also wonder who's idea it was to contact the media like that ya know. They HAD to know they'd become (I'm sorry but I have no other way to say this) some sort of freak show and be all over the news too so I don't understand their reasoning for releasing this to the news media ya know.

I completely agree. I believe they knew exactly what kind of attention they'd get if they went public with it. I can't help but think they wanted the attention and even some $$$ to go along with it. I'm not sure, but I think People Magazine pays for the rights to the stories. Anyone know for sure?

Yeah, this is no-doubt an interesting story...I didn't see the episode, but I did read about it on people.com. I understanding someone wanting to have a child of their own and all, but wow, talk about strange... I guess my initial question would be to ask the woman why she married the transgendered man in the first place...I wonder what brought them together? I don't know if anyone has seen the photo of his shirtless pregnant belly, but it is beyond creepy...it looks more like a peice of art than an actual photo because you just don't expect to see a man with a pregnant belly...oh well, to each his own I guess...just not my cup of tea...

Yes, but you would have to hear him talk because I did catch a few minutes of Oprah and what I did hear was more girl talking than boy. I do remember that and really he had more girlish features to his face too in my opinion. You ask about his wife? She doesn't look all that girly to me either. But, I haven't seen the article and like I said, I only caught between 5 and 10 minutes of the last part of the Oprah show and most of that was commercials.

Jami ~ Sorry, I never got an email notification you'd posted so I just now saw that. Anyway, you KNOW this was for the money. That's the part that makes me sick about it the most. Why bring attention to yourself and that poor child when it's born. You know the media is going to be following that poor child for a long time. I've seen the shows before (news shows) about transgendered people and it's something I've never been quite able to wrap my head around ya know. BUT, because of the way "he" was born and the transgendered thing and the choice made to make him a boy rather than a girl which was a choice, I don't personally consider this to be the first man to have a baby either. BUT, as I said, that's my opinion.:D

I missed the episode, also. I had heard about it on the news last week. I had heard something about a hoax being carried out, possibly. I am not sure if it pertains to this guy or if it was some other gentleman, in another country. The whole situation seems absurd. I am guessing Oprah needs a ratings boost. I don't really care to watch her much anymore.

In looking for something else, I saw this on the website of Good Morning America. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4581943&page=1

Reading that article is the reason why, in my opinion I don't consider this to be the "first man" to have a baby. If one opts to live as a man, that's a choice which was made ya know.

Funny you should say that because the other day while David and I were talking about it over lunch I told him the exact same thing. It really shouldn't be that big of a shocker to people because he technically isn't a "real" man. Although I must say, that would be a shocker worth talking about. ;)

LOL Well yea, if it was a REAL man, we'd have an entirely new discussion here but this? Nope. Doesn't count to me and really don't see the need for all the media attention other than the freak show type attention. That's all I can see this being truthfully. Sad but yea, and I have another question in my mind but I'm NOT going there. Nope. Not EVEN going to bring this one up. :D

So? How close is this circus to you Jami?

Now you have to ask the question. Circus? You mean where they live? It's about 3 hrs. south of us in Bend. Luckily not too close. :)

LOL well at least it's far enough away that you aren't dealing with news vehicles all over your town. :D

I'm just glad this story isn't from Georgia! Seems like we get all the freaky news stories down here!

Dear Lord, isn't that the truth! If there's a tornado or other natural disaster, you can bet the media will find a precious yahoo to represent Georgia! And it's not just that they're redneck...I know a few of those and they're not as bad as some of the weirdos that make on tv!

It just seems like all of the crazy stories come from the south and I get sick of the south getting such a bad rap! It's nice to see that crazy yahoos are distributed all over the country! ;)

Not only are there yahoos in the south, many of them are my family members. My older sister is a mean-spirited person and my other brothers and sisters have chosen to avoid her drama and problems. She called a couple of weeks ago and asked if I wanted to be on the the Dr. Phil Show. I'M NOT JOKING. She said she was already approved and the show wanted her brothers and sisters to come on the show. How embarrassing!!! She thought it was a great idea and maybe we could work out our differences. On national TV? You've got to be kidding. My dad and stepmother were all in favor of this and had started to make arrangements to fly to California for the show. The other siblings all threw a fit and finally my dad convinced my sister to give up the idea of airing our dirty laundry on TV. Yes, these people are those shows are real, and unfortunately, some of them are my family. :-)

Amen to that Vicki!!! Dr. Phil is definitely a classier alternative, although my general policy is not to go on talkshows...haha! ;)
