Every now and then we get to make something for ourselves. We are on Spring Break this week, and I'm treating myself with a few things for me! I saw this skirt (in different fabrics) in a high-end clothing catalog for $108! I decided to try my hand at making it. The flower is actually on the side of the skirt and wraps around to the front and back. Don't look too closely at how I didn't get my dots spaced evenly!:o It's not as much fun as stitching machine applique designs, especially going around all of those curves.

I love it!! And, I didn't even notice the dots not being spaced evenly. Looks like it was intentional and besides, it adds character.

Oh you're too sweet, but those dotd may drive me crazy! Every time I look at them on here I cringe. I think I may cover them up with another layer of fabric. Hmmmm...that just came to me!;)

That's awesome. You did a good job. Maybe since those dots are bugging you so much you could take a dark pink/salmon (can't tell the exact color) and make another shape or even another circle and then overlap them somehow over top of the ones you have on there now. Then it would look like you meant to have them spaced unevenly.

I love your skirt! You did a great job.

I wouldn't worry about the spacing...I don't know that I've ever seen a perfectly symmetrical flower. :p

You are so right! That's what I tell my students all the time when we're drawing still-life arrangements with plants or flowers in them. My little darlings always want to line up all the leaves and petal in neat rows, and the flowers look too perfect. I think that's what I'll tell them when I wear the skirt to school next week! Thanks!:D

That's really cute! The dots look more artistic the way they are.

How precious! I bought a pattern for a pleated skirt over a month ago and still haven't opened the package - you're inspiring me to get cracking on it!

I love it. Don't worry about the dots--they look really realistic like they are. It also gives it a bit of whimsey.

Ha...you're so funny. I've lost a grand total of 35 pounds, and yet I look at that skirt and think, "Holy Moly that skirt's as wide as it is long!" Maybe I'll model it for you all after I've lost a few more, and I can show it as a Before picture!:p

Oh you chicken s**t! I didn't say "hey hold it up so we can see how wide it is" Geez. Trust me ~ you'll look a lot better than I would. I would be modeling that skirt on ONE of my legs I bet. LOL

ROTFL I'm wearing it Sunday to a baby shower for my sister (8 months along.) I think I'll pose next to her and post that picture! She'll kill me!

You're SO bad trying to appear skinny next to a preggo. That's naughty. HA!

I think the dots give it a spacey retro look, I never would have known they were spaced unevenly - it makes the design much more interesting.

Ok, I haven't seen you wear that skirt to school. I know you will look great in it. How did you have time for this and sewing for Marli too. As of lately, I haven't been able to find the time to do anything creative. I am looking forward to seeing you in that skirt in August. I didn't even notice the uneven dots. In fact, I think even dots would not be as cute.
