Well, I finally broke down and bought Embird with the true type font plug-in. Now I need HELP! And lots of it. :motz:
I've had OESD's Explorations for a couple of years now, and love using it, but I was really limited with my fonts, so I decided to break down and buy the Embird program. So, any help you guys can give me will be sincerely appreciated.

You're going to LOVE Embird once you get over the initial learning curve! It took me one good long weekend of just playing around with it to finally get the hang of the program, and I still feel like I'm not using it to its fullest potential.
Let me know any specifics you need help with, and I can try to help with my limited knowlege. Justteachin and Nanamcd have both been a great resource for me too.
I bought the digitizer addon yesterday so that I can use some of my artwork as embroidery. WOW do I have ALOT to learn! It's going to take much more than a weekend on this one!

One other thing...there are several yahoo groups for Embird. Some of them are more helpful than others, but they are worth a try. Go to yahoo groups and do a search for embird, and then you'll just apply for membership. I did learn a bit from reading some of the old posts on their boards.

Thanks for the info.
When I first bought it last night, I kept looking on the board to see if you were logged in so I could hit you with a couple of questions. :p
I guess you were smart and had gone to bed.
Right now I'm trying to come up with a 3 letter monogram where it comes out as an oval with the center letter being larger than the outer 2. Do you know anything about how to do that?

Ha...you're right, I did go to bed rather early (dealing with this allergy crud again!)
For the three letter monogram, you will type your three letters in font engine (you did say you bought that add-on didn't you?) Then select properties and choose an envelope. There's an oval one in there. You can then chande the size and even extend the center height of the oval if you want. I wish I was at home right now to actually do this while I'm describing it. I'll work on one when I get home this afternoon.

Okay I'm at home for just a few minutes, and here's a little more detailed info.
First, bring up Embird. Click on Editor. Click on the icon for font engine. Type your three initials and then click on properties to change the font, size, etc. Click on Format. This is where you should find a grayish colored box at the bottom. Baseline is the first word in this box. Scroll over to the right and you will find Envelope, place a check in the box next to it, and then click the arrow down. I think evelope 3 is what you are looking for. After that, you can click on any of those little, bitty tabs around your letters and drag them to elongate the center or stretch the two ends. Click ok and it should bring up your monogram in editor. Save the file and you're ready to stitch! Good luck, and let me know if I can help with better explanations!

If Jami didn't mind having it here, it would be neat to have some of you posting in an Embird help thread the different things you had a hard time with and can post those things for others to learn from. We'd have to ask her if that's something she'd want though.
ETA: Of course, then again there are a number of yahoo groups that are out there for Embird so maybe we don't really need it here now that I think about it more. :D

Yippee! I learned something new today! After 4 kids, an exchange student, 3 birds and 2 dogs, I am absolutely amazed that I still have brain cells that can learn anything.
Anyway, I learned how to download free fonts off the internet. Load them on my computer, and then use them in the Embird program! :star:
Now I have literally thousands of font choices I can use in my embroidery!!!

I'm assuming you bought digitized alphabets and not just a tiff file?
If you have the digitized alphabets then all you need to do is put the words or monograms you want on your screen and combine them into one design and save it. Then take that to your machine and it will stitch out as one design.
I do not own Embird but I'm fairly sure that part of combining designs into one file is done pretty much the same. Hopefully this helps.
