I am embroidering a baby name on a home made quilt, I usually use spray adhesive to secure it in the hoop. However, I have heard a lot of talk about the sticky back stabilzers. Let me know which you prefer, I am thinking about making a purchase.

I have both, and I just prefer the spray adhesive. I think it's simply because I'm so used to working with it, and the sticky back is new to me.

I like sticky stabilizers, both tear away and wash away. (There is also a fusible cut away that is great when you need it for knits, but that isn't really sticky stabilizer).

Thanks,I think I will by some of the tear away sticky and see how it works. I don't like the way the spray leaves my quilts feeling.

I know it's too late for this quilt, but have you thought about embroidering those names onto the fabric before you quilt it all together? That's how I do all my baby quilts. I do all the embroidery and then stitch the squares and everything else together.

Good advice, haven't thought of that possibility, I guess I had tunnel vision. The next special request quilt I make, I think I will try this method.

You need to have many different stabilizers on hand.
Different projects work better with stickie and many need spray.
Be careful with the spray, spray very lightly about 10 inches away from the
stabilizer. If I think I've used too much spray I wait a few minutes before I put my fabric on it.
I use a deep cardboard box to spray in so I don't get over spray on anything.

I've used both...actually was taught by my dealer to use the sticky but later learned the mehod of using tear away and spray...like the tear away and spray a lot better and seems more economical to me....personal preference I guess...try the sticky and see what you think...what kind of spray are you using? the kk2000 isn't too sticky unless you use way more than you need
