Have you done any embroidery for special causes or charity fundraisers?

The only thing I've done is donated some embroidered items to my Mom's church for a fundraiser. I would love to do Project Linus but I don't think I'm good enough for that. I can make quilt tops but I'm not good at quilting it!!

Is the Project Linus a local thing? I would love to be able to do something like that. What a great way to use test sew outs

I am working on some kitchen accessories embroidered with the OSU logo for the charitable campaign's silent action where I work.
I thought Project Linus was nationwide.

I haven't yet but have plans in the future to do so. So far, I've been doing things for a group of girls I met online that don't have a lot of money and are having babies so I make them some embroidered baby things as keepsakes. I suppose that kind counts, just not on a large scale as the organized places since they aren't charged for anything.

I try to do something each year for a family.

DH has been out of work for a while now, so I haven't been able to do as much, but I am still doing a couple bags/backpouches for kids:)

Check with local sewing groups or even a food pantry if you have one nearby. Food pantries generally know of the local charities. You could also check with a local nursing home to see if they know of any. Some of the elderly staying in those homes make things to donate and the administration of the nursing homes could possibly give names of those places to you OR a name who might have places you could call. Pretty much anywhere that one can get help from would know of other places that help people.

This time of the year places that are good to make and give things to are the nursing homes or food pantries. There are always elderly in the nursing homes with no family which means no gifts for them and the pantries like to give little gifts to the families that are getting a holiday food basket as well.

They really do appreciate anything you make and give to them. They don't have to look like they came from Martha Stewart's shop. ;) I'm sure that your stuff is quite nice.

Some ladies at church make baby totes for some new babies in our community and i usually put some names and a little something..not exactly a "charity" but i enjoy doing it!

Sure that's charity. You are spending your time and giving something to their projects and if you aren't getting paid for that then you are certainly doing charity work.

I embroidered some pillowcases to send to the Cook's Childrens hospital. I also have made things which I donated to the local Animal League, which they sell to make money to pay for their spay/neuter program. I wish I had time to do more charity things, but seems like time is at a premium.
