I just wanted to share this smocked Mary De pattern that I just finished for my granddaughter. I love this pattern, its a jumper which can be worn with or without a blouse. I'm getting ready to make one for Christmas and use a white collar with shadow embroidery. Thanks for letting me share.

Shadow Embroidery is where you embroidery in a very dark color on the backside of the fabric. The color then shows through and you see the stitching on the front, too. Its a very subdued design on the front.

What a cutie, and the dress is great, too! I bet that was a lot of work, and it will be fun to see the other dress you have planned.

Beautiful dress! I am not good at anything that requires a lot of hand work. I don't have the patience to do it. You have a lot of time in the dress and it shows!

Smocking is really not that hard. The hardest part to me is getting it pleated correctly and evenly to fit the pattern. Also sewing up the garment sometimes can be a challenge because the patterns are a little different than McCalls or Simplicity or some of those.
Its so much fun and so worthwhile when the garments made and you see someone wear it, especially your granddaughter. Thanks so much for the nice comments.

How I admire you, I have done a lot of sewing and hand work but I will not attempt smocking. Haven't got the patience. Your model is so cute.
