This is my newest dress I just finished tonight, except the buttons. My machine just decided to tear up the button holes so I'm waiting for a day or two to put them in again. Thanks for looking.

That's so pretty. I would love to learn to smock. My daughters all want me to learn how to before they start having children.

Have you ever done smocking by machine? I went to a class on this, but it is kind of hard to pleat the material to me. I bought a pleater but have trouble getting it "just right". Does it usually take two people to really keep it straight or is there a certain trick?
Beautiful dress. :bootyshake: Debbie

No I haven't done smocking by machine I just enjoy doing it by hand so much. I wrap my material on a dowel rod before I put it in the pleater. Then I hold 1 hand on the dowel rod and turn the pleater knob with the other. Its kind of slow but yet goes well. The only problem I've ever had with it is if I am doing a bishop and my seams are too large to go through the pleater. Other than that its worked very well.

Beautiful work, and I hope your machine recovers from the "buttonhole munchies" soon!

That's such a great job. I've wanted to learn heirloom sewing since I first got my machine but it's something that will not be happening for awhile. I love the dress.

Beautiful. I love the colors! I have always wanted to learn to smock. Maybe when I have grandchildren, since my daughter is nine, and probably wouldn't be too thrilled with wearing anything smocked.
Here's an idea for the buttons: I made an Easter dress several years ago and sewed the buttons on using a flower bullion design. I tried to take a close-up picutre of it, and let's just say that I'm asking for a new camera for Christmas.... It turned out very sweet, and would look great on this dress.
Good luck with the button-hole goblin. Maybe he's gone back into hiding now that Halloween is over!

The smoked dress is just beautiful. I am a grandmother now, but when my daughter was little I bought and made smocked dresses for her. They are just beautiful.

Thanks everyone for your compliments. I really, really enjoy smocking. Its such a stress reliever. We have 5 grandchildren, 4 boys and only 1 little girl. My granddaughter can only wear so many dresses that I smock so I have to conrol myself when i see a new pattern.

Well if you are bored and need to create more feel free to send a few of those dresses my way. :D My granddaughter just turned 1 back in August and I know that I'll never take the time to learn to smock before she is in high school. LOL I am THE biggest procrastinator!
