My sister does paper piecing quilting and she loves it. She says there are a lot of great free patterns on the internet... Does anyone do paper piecing? List your favorite patterns, where to get, favorite websites, etc.

My mom taught me paper piecing when I was a kid, and we made our patterns from newspapers because that's all we had.
I pieced a quilt top in the 8th grade and entered it in the 4-H exhibits and won 1st place. My mom later sold it because we needed the money so bad.

I'm not sure how to explain it, my sister is the one who got me interested. Let me see if I get my mom to explain it (bejoyed)

I like paper piecing, but the only way I've ever done it is Judy Niemeyer's way. She's done some amazing patterns, and I took a class from her this year and just signed up for another 3 day class with her in January! Here's her website....www.quiltworx.com

The only paper piecing I've ever done is hand piecing a Grandmothers Flower Garden. Guess that doesn't help much, huh?

Nice photo MOm. I learned how to sew by doing paper piecing. All because I fell in love with some fabric while shopping with my Mom "Be Joyed". After I get the blocks made then I visit Mom and she teaches me how to embroider in them.

I enjoy paper piecing, I did quite a few wallhangings,I use to get my mom to peel all the paper off for me.

I am currently working on a paper pieced "amish" quilt for my bedroom in my new house. I'll have to post a picture for you all to see.

A grandmother's flower garden is considered English paper piecing where you use a cardstock (or other stiff material) template and baste your fabric around the shape and then whipstitch the edges together by hand.

Did you know that Sulky now makes a paper foundation that disolves in water. I was going to buy it to make my latest quilt but the store only had packages of five sheets. I needed about 80 sheets, and it was around $5 a package. I thought that was too much to spend for the paper. I'm sure it would save a great amount of time!!! Hopefully the store will start carrying larger pakages or maybe you can find it online.

You will have to come over and look at some of my books. I'm sure there are plenty you could choose from. Actually I have not even shown you how to paper piece yet. We have to do that soon. I think you'd be surprised how easy it is.

Paper piecing is great, it allows you to make those intricate patterns without all the stress, I call it sewing on the dotted line. Have you tried HGTV or DIY websites. I have found several good patterns in quilting magazines. I know there are some books out there with nothing but paper piecing patterns, I have bought several off of Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Of course, I am a book fanatic. I love to look at the patterns and pictures as much as making them. I guess I just enjoy dreaming about all the things I would love to make. Not enought time.
