 I was looking at the web site you posted " all about blanks". I see the cute snack boxes . How in the world do you embroider those? How do you get them in a hoop? Or is there another way? People have asked me it I can embroider backpacks, but how do you do that if you can't get the backpack in the hoop? Is there a secret?? Amy

I’ve never seen those in person, but from the pictures on their website it appears that you can just open the top of the snack tote to embroider on it. Their site also states, “You can embroider through the top and not sacrifice the insulating qualities.” Which leads me to believe that you can stitch right through the top as well as through the insulating foil on the inside.

I am in need of project ideas and instructions along to help me get started. There are so many but does not come with instuctions for simple projects. Id love to see these in this forum. .
Any ideas? What about fleece? I seem to mess it up with fleece! I can do bags. Any ideas for older boys?

We do need older boys embriodery. Like skate boards and snow boards. Maybe we can put a bug in the designers ear. ;)

If you click on the "Inspirations" on the top menu, it will take you to our project ideas webpage. Some of the projects currently have instructions for them and some don't. Adding instructions for the rest of the projects is on our to do list along with about 100,000 other things. :)

I have done the terry cosmetic bags before. they were a little difficult to hoop if you wanted to put the name on the side. but the snack boxes would be easy, as you would just open it up and put the name on the top. No problem. those are really cute. Great gift idea.

I have two suggestions for you to consider when embroidering the snack boxes. First, hoop a piece of sticky stibilizer. Sulky makes one and I am certain there other manufacturers as well. After you have hooped the sticky stabilizer, score it with a seam ripper along the edges of your hoop and make a cross in the center, carefully lift the protective paper away. Now you have an adhesive stabilizer to stick the top of the snack box on. After embroidering, carefully tear away the stabilizer. The foil insulation will easily tear, so be very careful. I apply clear duct tape on the wrong side of the design to prevent the foil from tearing away with use. I hope this helps.

The description of those says this
You can embroider through the top and not sacrifice the insulating qualities.
I wonder if they are only meant for you to embroider on the top of them. Then you could hoop the stabilizer and not the lid to do your embroidery and secure it to the stabilizer.
I'd be interested to see if anyone has any ideas on doing designs on the sides though. Unless you would have to remove the seams and redo them.

I missed it too, and would not mind seeing a photo of some completed ones if any of you has one.

If you type all about blanks into a search engine it will come up OR you can just type into the address bar allaboutblanks.com and it will come up. She's got a lot of stuff on that site you can buy to embroider on.

Viki don't forget to take some time for yourself at the embroidery machine now :) I know you are always here to help everyone but you MUST make yourself something and show us ;)
I have a pile of flannel I bought 2 weeks ago that's all washed and needing to be rolled onto the bolts I bring home from JoAnn's before I can even think of sewing. I can't see my serger table any longer. I took a picture of the flannel last night and a picture of my new storage closet my husband made me out of the closet that was wasted space in my sewing room. I just have to take the finished pics of the shelving he put in and then get the flannel rolled and on the shelves. Then take a picture and THEN I can start sewing. :D I had planned to do most of that last night until my new meds knocked me on my butt and sent me to bed early feeling really sick. :(
I have done the lunchboxes. I hooped some sticky stabilizer and just laid the top of the lunchbox onto the sticky. I also used a few straight pins for extra security to hold it down. It worked great for me.

I didn't know they made sticky stabilizer. That would probably work. I may try it. Thank you. I need to embroider a backpack, so I may try it on that.

Sticky works great for items that is just to hard to hoop. You can get the sticky stabilizer at any fabric/embroidery supply shop. It also works great if you want to embroider on ribbon or socks.

Oh my goodness. I would just go nuts with all that fabric! I don't know what it is, but I absolutely get giddy with new fabrics! (Sorry you got feeling crummy last night. Sure hope it's lots better today!)

Does the sticky gunk up your hoop? I have been embroidering for almost 6 years and never used it. I just pin everything.

Not too terribly. I do have to clean the side of it every so often to get some buildup off.
But it is also nice to take the left over sticky paper from the hoop after I finish a project and use it to help clean up all those loose threads that end up all over my floor and table, lol.

Ahhhh yes, all the little snippets of thread.... that's why I put in that multi-colored berber carpet on the floor of my last craft room --so all the threads didn't looks so messy!

Two tips in regard to using the sticky stabilizers.
don't ever use it on bath towels or similar type "fabric"! Trust me in this as it pulls the loops out and makes terrible "snags" in the towels.
you can also hoop the stabilizer and then carefully make a large X in it and then pull the paper back to allow the sticky part to be open for the item you are using to stick yet the part clamped in the hoop itself is still covered in paper and not making a sticky mess on the hoops. Be careful though because it can tend to slide a bit because it's slicker than regular stabilizer when the paper hasn't been removed. I usually also hoop a square of cutaway stabilizer with the center cut out along with it to help hold the sticky in place.

I may go to Joann's today and check this sticky stablizer out. I've never seen it or I don't remember seeing it.

Anything is possible with a sticky stabilizer, a lot of imagination, 4 bull clips, or a open arm machine. Sides can be stitched on if it close to the top of the cooler. You have to turn the cooler, kinda, inside out. Have to be careful that the movement of the embroidery arm doesn't hangup.
