I'm a foster parent for 3 special needs kids and each of them has 3 teachers. That's 9 teachers I need to get a gift for at Christmas! Does anyone have a cool idea for teaches that have everything? I'm looking for unusual ideas. Something out of the ordinary-unique...and of course needs embroidery! :)

Take a small piece of fabric, embroider , and sew it, make little bags and put inside charm soaps, I did it and the teachers liked it very much!!

Walmart has some nice throws in pretty colors. I bought some for somewhere around $7.75ish each. They look awesome embroidered.
Maybe you could find some in your school colors and embroider the school name on it. I did some of those for gifts.
You could also find a nice tote at a craft store to embroider on.

Luggage tags are nice. I am making some for my family. I am putting their last name and town on one side and a design on the other side depicting something they are interested in. I made one for myself and it sure made it easy finding my luggage at the airport. I bought the little chains for attaching them at Hobby Lobby--20 of them in a package for less than $2.

I think the travel mugs are a great idea. The ones with the inserts.
Fleece throws monogrammed are also a great gift. Target has them for about $8 each.

Has anyone done the Playtex 'Create Your Own" baby cups? I'd like to do a couple but not sure how cause I think they are rounded a bit.

When I do the plaxtex cups I take the insert out ,trace around it giving it an extra 1/4 all the way around, embroider it then i cut it out and fold the edges under then sew edges down.

I haven't done any yet, either. I did talk to someone who had some done for her and she said there is a couple of little dots of velcro on the corner where it comes together. She pops the inserts out everytime she washes the cups. They are not waterproof.

Last year I bought a set of kitchen towels and pot holder and then did a winter themed designs on them. All of teachers loved them. I think they can only take so many apple themed desk do-dads. It was something they were able to take home and use, but still think of my son. Just a thought

I am thinking of making the travel mugs with an embroidered insert with the teachers name for gifts for my 3 sons school teachers.
You can get the travel mugs at Dollar Tree for $1.00 if your area has one. If not I believe there are several sites that are selling them for around $4.00 each.

I agree about the "Teacher-Themed" Items. I was a teacher for a few years. Since there are only so many pre-made school-themed items, many of us would receive the same items each year from another student.
We would also give gifts to each other. One year the nurse made soap in the shape of a snowflake. It was a big hit. The Snowflake-theme works even after the holidays are over.

Embroider a fleece hat--they are cheap to make
I've seen a lot of cute hall pass, nurse pass, bathroom pass, etc things for teachers...It just depends on if they need something like that.
If you digitize you could have your child draw a picture and then you could stitch it out on a tote or something.
I also love to embroider neat sayings or poems and then frame them to hang on the wall or sit on a desk.
My younger kid's teachers have always loved the finger puppets or hand puppets that I've embroidered for them. I love the idea from Embroidables.com about using a garden glove and attaching embroidered frogs for '5 green and speckled frogs'. You could include a board book with the story if you feel the need to add something to it. This idea could also be used for any of the children's finderplays...5 monkeys jumping on the bed, ducks swimming in the water, etc.
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing!

All I can think of is clorox wipes... most school systems do not provide teachers with any cleaning products to use durring the day. I bet alot of teachers buy their own tissues too, depends where you work. I think a teacher's esentials kit would be cute... extra pencils, stickers, etc.

I am making Stockings for my son's teacher, with their name on the stocking. I will fill it with baked goodies:)
The stockings are simple to do, Just draw one out on newspaper for your pattern.
I am doing the mugs with inserts for my sons teachers. They are very inexpensive to make. I get my mugs at Dollar General for $3.00 and I think Dollar Tree now has them for $1.00. I think these are really cute and will make great teacher gifts.
I made peppermint cocoa, put it in a jar and embroidered a candy cane on a square of fabric and put it on the jar lid.

I've gone to Aldi's and gotten their adult aprons..you can check Wal-Mart too. I just embroider the name and a small image and it seems to work great. You can also stick a cooking utensil or something simalar in the pocket to add a little more to it.

I like this idea but how about making it into a larger size bag. My daughter's teacher sends home books or projects the children have made to share with the families and she sends them in a bag that some mother had made for the classroom at some point. I wish I could figure out how to make one myself because I think it's a great idea.

I wish it was traditional at the school I teach at to get the teacher's a gift! I swear, after posting at message boards, I've discovered that my school is nearly the only one that DOESN'T have children that bring gifts in for the teacher!

I like to get Walmarts $3.87 towels and do a pretty monogram on them. They are nice towels and everyone can use a pretty towel. I think women especially like the luxury of a monogramed towel. Even if the towels are not expensive, they feel like it when beautifully monogramed. For under $8 you could make a set of towels.

I really love the Teacher's Kit idea! I could line it with a towel and embroider that too!
Isn't it amazing that you can buy already made fleece blankets for less than you can make them? But of coarse you can't ever find the exact color you're looking for! :D

I had never heard of it either, teachers never got gifts at any of the schools my sisters and I went to. I grew up in a pretty poor area, I wonder if that is why. No money at home for gifts for the kids, let alone the teachers!

Best-received teacher gift I ever did was a pillow for the reading corner rocking chair the teacher sat in. (She taught first grade.) I used an easter egg coloring sheet the teacher had drawn as an applique pattern - go thru those art projects your kids have brought home and see if something can be translated into a stitched gift - it's personal and meaningful - shows the teacher you're paying attention!

Of course, being an easter egg, it was an end-of year gift - turns out the teacher's mother was an amish quilter so she really got the workmanship oart of the gift!

A school that doesn't give gifts to the teachers?! They deserve it! After all they are the ones that spend quite a bit of time with our kids...everyday. Being a teacher is hard work! They deserbe a little something! My hats off to teachers!

My teacher friend said she likes to get any kind of staples - like note pads, pens, paper clips, etc. I think just doing a cute little stocking or bag and fill it with those much needed and used items would be a great gift.
