This past weekend I was in Atlanta, and discovered the most wonderful thing in the world.....the HUGE Jo Ann's Fabrics!!! I nearly died. We don't have anything near like that in B'ham, AL. I got some unique and beautiful fabric on sale. I'm jealous of everyone that has one of these stores near them.
On top of the wonderful, endless fabric selection, they also sell Husqvarna machines, so I got to drool over those. I've never seen so much decorator fabric and patterns in my life. Also had an incredible trim selection. I bought a lot of stuff just to have "in case". The only store in AL is in Mobile, so if any of you want to go crazy with fabric shopping, I highly recommend. It's worth the drive. Yes, they also sell lots of embroidery thread and quilting supplies.
The worst part was that the Sewing Expo was going on just up the block!! It started a couple of days earlier; if I had known I could have gone over a few days earlier. I was there for a writing conference, and was headed to my hotel to get started with our event. It was hard not to play hookey! My two passions having big events on the same dates so near each other....<sob>.
Happy sewing!!

I'm afraid to go into a JoAnn's superstore. My self control is not that strong. There's one close enough to me that I could take a drive over there but so far I've resisted. They had said there would be one built 30 minutes from me but that hasn't started yet and who knows when it will with the economy the way it is.
I was there! At both places! My girlfriends and I did a "field trip" from the North GA mountains to the Sewing Show and then did a stop at Joann's.
We don't have anything like that up here! Between the show and Joann's, everyone stocked up on fabric! We had a blast!
By the way, there is a big quilting show in Pigeon Forge, TN this weekend--
I think it is March 11 thru 15th.

Bad news for me -- there is a Joann's Superstore between my office and my house. I have to drive within two blocks of it TWICE A DAY. It is very difficult for me. There is a regular Joann's about five blocks from my office (the opposite direction, but next to a Sonic). So.... I can get a limeade and rick rack and still have time for lunch.
My recently-marrried son called a couple of weeks ago. He was in a tizzy. He said he and Erika had to stop by Joann's to get some thread and flannel and the ladies in the store knew Erika by name! I thought it was hilarious; he did not. As they say, you marry your mother...

I think I want to relocate.......where did you say you lived NJMO?lol No Joann's within 200 miles of me. I have to get my fabric fix at Hobby Lobby or Hancock's.

I did not get to go to the expo this year. I went last year for all three days. I had so much fun. After we left we went by Joann Super Store too. I wish that it was closer. I keep planning to go for a Saturday, but still have not made it. I was in heaven!

Where is the superstore in Atlanta? May get dh to take me this weekend. I need trim and ribbon. And of course anything else that I can find that I may "need"!(LOL):driver:

That's funny that they know her by name. We have a Super JoAnn just up the street from us, too. And, it's right next to a Sonic also. Sonic drinks and some fabric...a great combination. :D

Click here for the list of JoAnn stores (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=Georgia)in Georgia. I'm going to guess the Superstore she's talking about is the one in Alpharetta given the Sewing Expo was just in Duluth.
ETA: Oops - I change that answer since I see there is one in Duluth also. :D

Debbie,
I have been to the one in Duluth and the one in Snellville. They also have coupons that are good until Saturday I think. I am not real sure if I will get to one before they expire, so if you do get to go and do not have any coupons I will meet you somewhere to give you mine. Just let me know.

I am like divephantom, we both have to travel far and wide to get the good stuff or pay shipping charges.
I would love to go to TN this weekend for the quilting show, but alas, I work EVERY WEEKEND!!!! Too bad , huH?

Thanks so much. I am not sure what direction we will be going this weekend - HOPEFULLY- towards Atlanta. Wish it could have been last weekend so that I could have visited the Expo! I will let you know no later than Thurs. night about the coupons. Can you get any coupons on-line?
Thanks - Debbie

I'll be at the Expo next year, for sure!! This Jo Ann's in in/near Norcross, close to the Sugarloaf exit, not far from the venue where the expo was...if you look at the expo website, its just a few blocks away from that venue (whose name escapes me at this horrible hour of the AM...headed to work!).
