Tried to add these for NJMO in hopes of brightening her day.

We may have storms tonight but today it is bright and sunny and the roses are smiling and strawberries have never been sweeter.

Wish you all were here so I could share.

You have strawberries already? Ours don't come in until June. Can't wait!!!

Strawberries? That does seem very early for those. As Jami said, June is the month they are fully ripened in the midwest. June ~ my favorite month because it's not only strawberry season but also Dairy month and living so close to WI it means CHEESE specials are abundant everywhere. And at great prices too.

We've been getting strawberries in the grocery stores recently and for the larger containers they've been running only about $2 each which is a great price. Sadly those also mean the cravings for strawberries and pound cake and the prices for pound cake is terrible. They are selling those frozen now for almost $5 each for the size equivalent of a small bread pan. I refuse to pay that much and still haven't found a good recipe for shortcakes. I had one years ago and it was lost and eating those on angel cake just isn't the same. :(

My favorite shortcake recipe is the one on the Bisquick box. Lately, I've been eating just the strawberries and cool whip--less carbs that way, but I sure miss the "cakes".

idesign, I live in Ohio but was born in Ky. My Mother always made the short cakes from the Bisquick, and I still do, and yes, they are Wonderful! I usually use a large cutter, about 2-3 inches across and they are perfect! I am usually a "from scratch baker" but I don't know that I can beat this recipe.

Don't know what made it but the strawberries are the best I can remember. We had a cold spell just as they were blooming and I think that killed some of them and made the survivors really sweet. From the looks of my blueberry bushes it is going to be a bumper crop of them as well. Wish I could share.

One thing you will find out about me is that when it comes to cooking, I'm EXTREMELY picky. I cannot do Bisquick.

I did run across this recipe (http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/03/cream-cheese-pound-cake-strawberry-coulis/)today however and I'd suggest if you are on any kind of a diet that you not go to this site! Trust me.

That is soooo funny. I made a cream cheese pound cake to serve with the strawberries. The only thing missing from her recipe is the fresh whip cream I put on top. Made with Mexican vanilla. I can just eat that for desert.

I noticed that myself but I think strawberries and cake just scream for fresh whipping cream and it's just a thing not mentioned maybe. I mean, geez, that's like making a peanut butter and ................nothing but bread sandwich, just not right. LOL

I swear it's those childhood taste buds that sit up and take notice when something tastes, "just like Mom's". Well, my Mom was NOT a cook, or baker for that matter, so things that are familiar to me from childhood are usually not all that healthy, but they are tasty!

Oh! Those look like the strawberries I picked this past Saturday and today. They are so good! I don't do a true shortcake. I usually just bake a yellow cake and slice up those fresh strawberries and add whip cream and ice cream. yum yum! The kids love it.

But for a low fat on the diet snack. I love to freeze the strawberries and then pull them out and let them melt in your mouth on some of these 80 degree days. It makes you think they are bon bons. Well, maybe anyway!

Can't wait for blueberries!
