Hi!
Been so long since I've written anything here because I don't keep up if there are responses. However, I just solved a major problem and thought it might help someone else.

My hP laptop is going on 2 yrs and has some problems. : ( I am fed up with PCs but thats what my embroidery and quilt software takes. (please no offense to pc lovers, just started in '91 with Mac's and love that I don't even have Nortons or McAfee on here .... it is my "natural habitat") Just don't want to pay another $1000.

The other day I saw a *netbook* on QVC. It was $424. Yet it has 160G HD. It is nice and small ... 10" x 6.5" and weighs a little less than 3 pounds. the screen is small but it big enough to show as much visual of the Embird screen. We'll see how Electric Quilt looks.

It also has Windows XP which is what I really need for Embird..even though they claim it will work with Vista.. I haven't ever been able to make it work in Vista.

These don't have a CD/DVD drive because there is no room. However it has a 5 in 1 card reader. So I can import on a little SD card and export the same way.

It will only be necessary to go online with this to download designs and software. Then OFF. We are only going to use my MacBook for the networld. It's ironic to use a netbook to stay offline. :) This should help greatly to not get all the little intrusions bogging things down. Neither McAfee or Norton's has ever done a great job. Maybe we are "targeted" in Cyberworld!!!!!

Because this netbook is nice and small it comes with a matching zippered sleeve... it fits easily to any purse that is over 10" x 6" inside. So when I go up to sew with my best friend every couple months it will be very easy to tote it along.

It's even pink! They have this for a similar price at HP, but with QVC I can just return it if it turns out some of my thinking was faulty :P White and pink are $20 more, no sleeve, etc. They all start shipping on July 31 or so.

Don't know if this would help anyone else, but it is a big break for me.

Elizabeth,

I think you will love the netbook. My husband recently purchased one and it has been a back saver for him! He totes his laptop to classes (he is a Professor) all around campus and the light weight netbook has saved some aches and pains in his back! Plus, it has all of the features that most full sized computer do (as long as you can read the screen:) )

I am "testing" a netbook for work and it is great! We took it on vacation with us and it was great on the plane. It fit right in my purse.
