What excellent Christmas gift ideas. I think any mom would love them as well as the kids. I am always looking for things to make for kids gifts that are not toys. As a mom, I can tell you, we don't need more toys, but something like this makes the child feel special and it is useful too.

Very cute, so is the half of the hand towel just sewn onto the edge of the middle of the bath towel? Very cute project.

Just going through some of the posts and saw these adorable hooded towels. I like your version with the hand towel for the hood better than the two washcloths I had used as it gives a more finished edge.

I have a question about the ribbon placement, it appears to be just behind the edge of the hood, is it about 1.5 - 2 inchs back and running from the seam over the top of the hood to the other seam where it connects to the towel?

Thanks,

Wow! You did an awesome job on those. My DIL wants me to make some of those hooded towels and I haven't had the nerve to try them yet. I have a few different instructions to make them and they really can't be too hard. I guess I need to just do it. Yours are adorable with the ribbon added to them.

Thanks for the praise, I will try to explain how I made them.

I take 1 bath towel and 1/2 hand towel so when I go shopping I buy 2 bath and 1 hand and this will make 2.

I cut the hand towel in half. fold back the finished end of hand about 2 inches or even with the trim/pattern of towel. ADD RIBBON OF CHOICE .... Sew the RAW edges together. (serge or zigzag.

Fold BATH towel in half and mark the center and then sew the hood on the Bath towel. Hope this made it easier for you.

Oh thank you! That's SOOO much easier than any other instructions I've read through before. Some make it sound SO complicated with tons of measurments etc. You make it sound really easy.

thanks for the directions - I agree that is easier than what I had and I like that the embrodiery is on the band, sure to be lined up and less intense so it will stitch quick.

Thanks for the directions... they sound pretty simple. Maybe if I ever get all the Christmas things done, I can give this a try. I hate the hooded towels you get at the store... they are only good until the little one gets about 1 year old, then they are too small. These look like they would work for a while longer.

If you made them now using holiday designs then each holiday you could give them a new one for the next year. That could be lots of fun.

Those are really great. What a nice idea. And to go green you could use them to wrap a toy or other gift in with the name on the outside. My mom always gave us gifts wraped in towels and blankets ro just plain fabric for me because she knew I would make something out of it. Mom's moto was "waste not want not", can you tell she grew up in the depression?

l like that idea. Two gifts in one! I wish all my presents would come wrapped in fabric!

We are big fans of the monogrammed towels...I took a class once and I did not like the way the hood looked...they used washcloths instead of the hand towel. I am going to try yours now! Thanks for the pics and instructions.

This is a great idea, and as someone said, will work for those past the baby stage. It would be fun to do one for summer and one for winter, or all the seasons. With the size of the towels, they could last for years. Thanks for the idea and instructions.

Those are perfect for my 5 year old!

He is small, and has almost outgrown the baby towels, even the really large ones.

Yikes! i'm excited to do those for him for Christmas! He LOVES his towels, and this is perfect!

I am confused a bit as to how to make them.

Do you cut the hand towel in half down the length of the towel, or across the width?

And when you attach it to the towel, how to you keep the seams from being seen?

I am probably making this much harder than it is, for sure, but I wanted to make sure I understood before I cut into one.

They look like they are cut across the width...look at the edge of the hood, it has the "decorative" woven band that goes across the width of most towels.

I love these and they look rather simple. I think I found another Christmas present for my little niece and nephews!

Fun2Sew-

Those towels are great! The fact that the ribbon matches so perfectly is awsome. Do you buy your fabric/ribbon at specialty fabric stores, because I don't find that really neat stuff at the big chain stores in my area.

What an inspiration.

I'm not sure where she gets hers but, JoAnn Fabrics has a huge amount of ribbon choices that they sell. I've bought quite a lot from them myself.

I don't know if it's my pregnant brain or what, but I can't seem to wrap my head around this. Maybe it's too easy, and my silly brain is trying to make it harder. :stupido2:

Okay, so cut the hand towel in half width-wise, got it.

Fold the edge of the hand towel back a couple of inches, even with the band. I think I have this, too...Just fold the edge of the towel back so the edge is even with the bottom of the band. Then stitch down. Correct?

Serge raw edges together, then sew hood on the bath towel. This is where I'm embarrassingly stuck. Which raw edges do you serge together on the hand towel?

I'm with you crumbear - still very confused - I always overcomplicate things that should be so simple! Some pictures taken during the process would be really helpful! Hint...hint...hint. ;) ;)
