Well for the first time, I've made myself a bag. Bought the pattern online today, and jsut had to make it today, but with no funky retro fabrics in my stash, I used these two!
And am actually rather impressed with how it turned out. Would make the interfacing a lot heavier on the contrasting fabric, btu lesson learned. It has turned out really rather well.

Only one drama - using my mothers iron, and I lost all concentration while putting on fusible interfacing. I ironed the interfacing to the iron. wooops!

That looks GREAT Emma! Beautiful purse. Sorry about Mom's iron though. Hopefully you can get that off.

It looks so awesome in real life, off out this morning to get some more interfacing to make another one in camo fabric. The sewing bug has bitten me big time! That reminds me, is the Sept inspirations contest up and running yet?

I love that bag, Emma. Great job. I had to laugh at the iron thing. I've done that before.

Thanks guys! Im not 100% happy with it, just because of the interfacing needing to be a lot heavier on the contrast fabric, lesson learned though :)

I panicked how to tell mum! She always raves on about her iron and how great it is, dont damage it etc. So when I finally told her, (in her dental clinic, around drills, just before she put her fingers in my mouth, what was I thinking!!!!!!!) she goes "oh its just an iron". Good thing I only wanted her to see if my wisdom teeth were ok haha!

I love your bag, you did a fantastic job with it. I would love to know where to get the pattern, it would make a great Christmas gift for my sisters. Can you share it with me?

I'll PM you now :) Can't say where from, because they sell embroidery designs on their site

Here is the bag I made today. It stands up on it's own a lot better due to the weight of the fabric. I love both! This one is made a bit better, just because I knew what I was doing this time around, and took a few steps to make it look that bit more professional.
It's all learning curves :)

Don't you just lurve my little label I printed! (yes, its not straight, but its just for me so I dont care lol)

That bag really is cute! (and I love your label too). What type of fabric did you used for lining? Would you mind sending me a message with the website that you purchased the pattern from; I have about 10 different pattens for bags and yet to make a single one:o Now you have inspired me to give it a shot

It's self lined, the pattern calls for co-ordinating fabric, but of course you dont have to do that. So I lined it with matching fabric. I'll PM you now :)

A lot of girlfriends now want one, and also want me to sell them. So now I'm looking into that!

Emma, my sister would love to have that camouflage bag. They are both great looking, and I think your little label is "adorable"!

About that everyone will want one thing - too late!!!!!!! lol. I gave in, so am now making them for girlfriends too, and tempted to list one for sale to see how it goes!

The camo bag is my absolute fave.
I'm just off out for a saturday afternoon trip to get some more bag clasps! lol

One thing I forgot to ask...how did you print the label for your bag?

Emma

I just printed it by ironing some fabric onto freezer paper, and then printed my label and cut it out. it's not waterproof though. You can buy special printable fabric though that has been treated and sets the ink :)

Just google printing on fabric and you should get heaps of results :)

Very cute! I'm curious about the label too? is it printable fabric paper or a transfer? or ?? Did you do pockets for the inside or is it more like a tote? Great job on both of them!

Emma

There are pockets for the inside, I'm considering adding a couple of bottle loops too, but will see how I go.

Sold my first purse lastnight, so i am over the moon, how exciting!

The label I just made by ironing freezer paper onto a cotton, to give it a nice stable back, then just printed onto it like normal paper. I will get some printable fabric though to do proper labels so they dont run.

Will I EVVVVVVER have time to sew fun stuff like that?!? I try so hard to slow my life down a little and it just doesn't happen! I think it may be because I can't say the word "no" and I LOVE to help others. I bring it on myself.

Emma

Haha! Absolutely, do half an hour each night and you'll be set :) (easier said than done though eh! Especially with the not being able to say no, oh I know what that's like. I am getting better though!!)

Im lucky(but not!) in a way at the moment that my health is so bad I just cannot work, it gives me hours of free time. Although sitting at the machine right now is killing me.

I know what you mean about sitting at the machine. I always have a soar back. I have two special needs children and they are both totally disabled, so I have to lift them a lot! One weighs 82 lbs. I know some people have their machines at waist level and they stand instead of sit at their machine. I'm not sure if that will be any better for me.

That is a great purse. I've been looking for a good pattern to make some Christmas gifts, would you mind letting me know where you found it also?
