That's alot of thread Janet:eek: I think I must have around 70. Obvioulsy I want more though! I am trying to build my colection up my ordering four big spools online each month. I am not bothering with small reels anymore. As they run out I replace with big spools:D

I used to buy a couple of small reels each week, there was a craft shop on the way to work, mainly cross stitch and patchwork, its suprising how quickly they mount up and if I went to a craft show, I would buy 10.

I am buying all mine online now. What machines do you have again?? I know you told me a long time ago but I have forgotten now:rolleyes:
I would really like some software to make photo stitch patterns. I spent ages looking online last night and was so shocked to see Brother PE Design retailing for £699:eek: Totally out of my league I'm afraid to say. I wanted to make some pictures of local scenes to frame and maybe sell on Folksy but it looks like an impossible feat for me with those prices. The PE Design lite doesn't do the two things I want out of software, which is photo stitch and cross stitch. So frustrating as I could probably stretched to £260 to buy it.

Sharon, try looking at the adds at the back of Sewing worlld magazine, you might be able to pick one up there.
I have the super galaxie 3100 D mahine, its a differant model number in the USA. I also have a Janome 9000, but that doesn't get used very often.

I have 7 boxes filled with threads for embroidery and they each hold 30 spools. I have smaller spools stuck in in between some too so I have many more than what they actually are made to hold. I just took a peek and I have 260 in those boxes. Then I have another type box which is filled with another brand of embroidery thread and that holds about 40 spools and then about 8 spools which are in an open storage box because all my other thread boxes are totally stuffed full. Adding all those up, I must have then around 315 total. ACK! I had NO idea I actually had that many and the funny thing is that each time I pick a design to stitch I always have to buy more for that design. LOL

Just because you haven't got the right colour.

I was looking at my thread collection and I noticed that I seem to have lots of reds and pinks and lots of blues, but not nearly as many yellows, greens or browns. Why is this? Is it design related or is it just me?
I have been trying for the last few weeks to make do with the colours that I already have. Most of my threads are Hemingworth (I just love them) so I have to convert all of the thread numbers for designs, I used to be very pedantic, but lately with so much to do for Christmas I have just started eyeballing it. It has been working quite well for me especially with Embroidables designs because that aren't as overloaded with thread changes like some others.
I have about 150 colours now and I'm going to see how far I can go before I buy any more!
Far too many. My father made a thread stand for me earlier this year, it has 99(!) holders. I can't fit all of my threads on. I need another holder.

All this talk about thread got me curious...I counted up all of my embroidery thread alone and stopped when I reached 300:eek: That didn't include the metallic, ombre or multi-colored threads. But you have to have lots of colors...right? Why does it seem that I never have "just the right shade" when I need it?!?

I so agree! I can never seem to just find that right shade when I neeeeed it. Usually results in a trip down to the store to get it ;) Oh what a shame hehehe
There is never a trip to another town without buying at least 1 new thread!

Vicki, I just went to ck how many boxes of thread I have-I have 8 boxes that hold 30 and maybe 30-40 small spools of Sulky. AND yes! I don't know HOW Embroidables does it but I too seem to have to buy at least one new spool when I do a new embroidables design. Yes, on many things you can change colors, but I did denim jackets for a little grandson and two grandaughters with shirts too, with the R. Lindgren cowboy and cowgirl designs. There is no way I would have changed much on those designs. Many many color changes and I wanted it to look like the picture I saw of those designs. I use to do a lot of cross stitch and I remember a sales person telling me that some one had done a barn in purple so it would match something they had and it looked terrible. Well I am sure that person must have liked it but like in those R. Lindgren designs, it would be easy to mess up shading and all kinds of stuff so I wouldn't take a chance myself. It is uncanny how you can have so much thread and missing one for a design!, but I feel like a new spool is like a little present to myself!

Its suprising how quickly a collection can grow by just buying a couple of spools a week.

Too funny about running out of hiding places. LOL Does hubby not know of your obsession?
I'm VERY lucky in that my hubby enables me in my addiction and goes with me to the fabric and Viking stores to help me spend our money. :D AND he carries all of my stuff to the van too.

am lucky in that way too Vicki. My huband actually TOLD me to buy a few spools a month of thread:D This was after I was raving how much cheaper it was to buy them online than in town. He hates the noise of the machine but loves what it can do:D I gave just conmpleted the doll for Kellie, he loves it and laughed when I showed it to him last night. He said I should make one of our son too for a laugh, in his school uniform and poking out of the top of his stocking on Christmas morning! (he is 14!!)
