I want to do this but every time I do it, the needle wholes perf. the paper and the design falls out. I just want to do a letter on paper. I used cut away backing and it still did it. I was using a heavy weight card stock.
Any other ideas?

Embroidering on paper is one of my favorite things to do. I really like the creative aspect of combining embroidery and paper crafts. When stitching on paper the main thing you want to try to prevent is the paper from ripping in between the holes made by the needle.
Here are some tips which should help:
Use a high linen content paper.
Use a smaller size of needle. (smaller needle = smaller holes)
Loosen your thread tension a little to help keep the thread from tearing the paper.
Use stabilizer to help reinforce the paper.
Don’t forget to post pictures on the message board when you’re done. We would love to see them. Here is a link to another thread discussing the subject:

There are lots of example projects on the inspirations webpage using embroidery on paper

Some of the ideas include, scrapbooking, greeting cards, photo albums, wrapping paper.... etc. It's actually really easy to do.

We just us a med weight tear-away. Just hoop the stabilizer and then stick the paper to it using a little bit of spray adhesive. The most important thing is to make sure that your paper has a high linen content, so that it is less prone to tear when the needle punches holes in it.

I tried using the foam sticker paper to make frogs and it worked great. They were really cute, but I gave them away.

Emma,
After reading so much about embroidering on paper I had to try it too. I took the little snowball design on the Keri Schneider collection and just gave it a try for "fun" on card stock----and lo and behold! It worked! I was amazed! I too was panicking, not believing that it would work! I bought some of the travel mugs to do but haven't had time to get to them yet, but I can't wait!

I have been trying to do some travel mugs for teachers gifts; however even though I am using a #90 needle for small hole, I can still see the holes . It looks like some of the thread is not as smooth either. Anyone have any ideas as to what I am doing wrong? I stabilize and spray the stabilizer to put the paper on. TIA

Granny313, I am sure not as experienced as you at any of this so I will keep an eye on this thread to see what someone may suggest, so I too can learn from it! Good luck!

What kind of paper are you using? And how detailed is the design?

David - I hate to admit that I don't know what type of paper it is. I ordered it from a site that is reputable. As far as the design, I have only put the letter of the first name for tumblers. I am ashamed to admit that I didn't know there was "types" of Kiwi paper! :bawling:
