I have purchased so many cheap irons that I just wasn't happy with...They all sit in a cabinet...Finally I broke down and purchased a Rowenta...I am really happy with it,,,but have been hearing a lot of talk about an ironing system called Lacy or Lucy,,,can't remember the name...but if anyone knows what I am talking about and can shed some light on the system, I would love to hear about it..

I spent 40 dollars on a cordless Oreck that I really do like - I *love* the cordless feature, because for some reason I get all tangled in the cord of an iron LOL. I wish it were heavier like a Rowenta, but I really do like it. It's my second one of the same model.

I have a cordless Maytag that I got almost 3 years ago and I just love it! I am not a steam user so I have never put a drop of water into the iron, but I do keep a spritz bottle by the ironing board for stubborn pieces.....Also if you can handle perfumes/scents the Mary Ellen's Best Press is a wonderful product as well!

I make custom window treatments and bedding, so I work with a lot of heavy upholstery fabric. After going through more irons than I can remember, I finally broke down and bought a Rowenta with a medium size water tank. I LOVE IT!! I get lots of steam and lots of heat and it has made my life so much easier.

My latest iron purchase is the Oliso touch glide. It takes a little getting use to but has a lot of great features.
I'[ve only used the Oliso at the quilt shop during classes. I think I would wind up burning the ironing board if I got too used to the automatic pop up feature of the Oliso and had to go back to using a regular iron LOL

A few years ago I won the Oreck from a Taste of Home show my husband and I went to. It's got the option of using it cordless or not. I really love the iron. It's the best one I've owned to date. It heats up very quickly and the steam feature is awesome; far better than any I've owned.

We got a Rowenta and love it.
I did get a cheapee backup and it gets really hot and too much water and steam comes out. I'm always afraid that I'm going to ruin something when I use it so I end up using the Rowenta.
Good luck!

I have a Rowenta... not the most expensive one, but a nice one. It does a good job, but I wish it was cordless. I am left handed and the cord is always tangled up on me.

My old 18 yo Black & Decker is still going strong. It uses tap water, gives me lots of steam or none, and what I really love is it has an automatic shut off. It'll beep 5 min. before it cuts off to remind me to either turn it off or finish what I'm doing. If you just set it down and pick it back up it's good to go for another 20 min.
I've looked at the Rowenta's and other everyone raves about but I'm sticking to mine cuz I can't imagine anything better. I'm just dreading the day it does finally die. :(

You're right in wanting to keep that one. Many things new things you can buy now adays are not built as well. They have a lot more bells and whistles, but a lot of things are just not made to last forever. It's sad really. I would probably be using my Black & Decker myself if my "wonderful loving little boys" hadn't broken it multiple times by knocking it off a shelf it used to be on years ago.
Hopefully you haven't jinxed yourself by talking about how much you'll miss it if it dies. We'll have to give it a proper burial when it goes.

I burnt myself CRAZY bad on my quilt shop's Rowenta. Proved to me that it gets nice and hot LOL.I love my Rowenta, but those babies do get hot. I have matching burn scars on both arms (in exactly the same spot, mind you) from reaching across to pick something up and grazing the metal plate. Ouch! :p
