Embroidering on paper is one of my favorite things to do. I really like the creative aspect of combining embroidery and paper crafts. When stitching on paper the main thing you want to try to prevent is the paper from ripping in between the holes made by the needle.
Here are some tips which should help:
Use a high linen content paper.
Use a smaller size of needle. (smaller needle = smaller holes)
Loosen your thread tension a little to help keep the thread from tearing the paper.
Use stabilizer to help reinforce the paper.
Don’t forget to post pictures on the message board when you’re done. We would love to see them.

It depends on which paper. For cardstock, I use Bazzill which can be bought at most scrapbooking stores. For projects like the wrapping paper, I use the really large paper sheets. I have always bought them from Loose Ends in Salem, OR. They are going out of business sadly, but having a great sale on them. Here's the link:http://www.looseends.com. Your local art supply store might also carry the large sheets. It's always nice to be able to touch before buying. :)
If you need clarification on anything else, just ask.
I've been thinking of trying some embroidery on gift wrap for Christmas... I may just have to give it a try now...

Oh that's original! At first I thought embroidery would just be too much for wrapping paper...until I looked at it. It is just gorgeous, what a way to make a gift truly special! (You just couldn't wad up and toss that paper after opening the gift!)

Wow- that sounds cool. I hope to see lots of projects with paper. I'm to scared to try it. I hate fooling with the tension.

Believe it or not- I have never touched my tension and have NEVER had any problems with any designs. KNOCK on wood fast.
