Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers. Enjoy your day and do what you feel like doing. Maybe even doing a little embroidering for yourself or just sitting down reading a book. We are going to my daughters in laws. The two sides of the families get together and have brunch.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day. I will have two or our boys here today. One worked all last night since he works 3rd shift and the other is working now till 4pm so we are having a nice dinner at 6pm. We got a great deal on NY Strip steaks so we're having those on the grill.

The rest of our menu is this: (YUM! Can't wait)

Neelys Asparagus Casserole (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/patrick-and-gina-neely/neelys-asparagus-casserole-recipe/index.html)
Marlenes Mediterranean Salad (http://lotsofinfo.tripod.com/S30marlenesmediterraneanpastasalad.htm) (not as big as that one though/we made it for our wedding and everyone loved it)
Broccoli Salad with Celery and Raisins
Baked beans
TRIFLE FRUIT SALAD (http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,1643,157169-247193,00.html)
Garlic bread

Dinner sounds great Vicki!

Happy Mother's Day from me as well. We were at the cottage this weekend and my daughters got up early and made me breakfast which was an amazing surprise because they don't usually get up before noon. We just got back home and my husband is smoking a whole beef tenderloin and making a cognac and peppercorn sauce for it. The girls are making assorted vegies and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Sounds like fun - especially because I don't have to lift a finger!

Yum Susan. The tenderloin sounds quite yummy especially with that sauce.

My hubby made my breakfast and has been helping me with the food prep today and he has done all the dishes from all the cooking too. The trifle fruit salad is going to be very good. I cut all the fruits up and then went to sit and rest my knees while he made the sauce to pour over top. OH MY! I went to taste that sauce and it is wonderful. I love that the bananas are not in the fruit salad since we all know how quickly they go black but this sauce having been made from banana pudding gets the flavor into the fruit salad without that problem of the bananas going icky the next day for any leftovers. I over bought on fruits though since I read the recipe wrong so we also have a plain fruit salad too. :D oops. Oh well, I can surely think of worse things since I LOVE this time of year when we can get so many fresh fruits like the strawberries and blueberries and others. Oooh I just remembered that I have mangoes in the fridge that could be cut up and added to the fresh fruit salad.

Sounds like Mother's Day was enjoyed with lots of yummy food this year! Isn't that the best? David made me breakfast in bed which consisted of Crème Brûlée. You know it's going to be a good day when it starts with that. Haha. I also got to enjoy sweet handwritten notes, which I think beat expensive gifts any day of the year.

You are so right Jami - the cards mean more to me than anything!

Oh yum. Gosh, a famous ironman AND cook. What can't that man do?

The little notes when they are little are great. They used to make me cry when I read them and I bet they do to you too Jami. I only wish I'd have saved all those from when my kids were little.

That darned Hallmark commercial was killing me this year each time I saw it. It just gave me even more of a guilty feeling every time it was on showing the Mom saying good bye to her daughter and then going inside to put this years card in that box with all the others from years and years gone by. UGH. I feel horribly guilty that over the years in thinning things out with each move I tossed many of my things like that. I just feel like such a bad Mom. :(

There's not much he can't do, but you have a pretty amazing man, too, Vicki.

We took a little overnight getaway on Friday night and indulged and ordered some dessert from room service (that was my first time ever ordering room service, but after that experience, I can assure you it won't be my last). However, I'm such a cheapie that it probably won't happen for a while. Haha. Anyway, that's beside the point. However, one of the desserts we ordered was Crème Brûlée. It was my first experience with it and now I'm addicted. So, sweet David did some research and spent several hours Saturday night while I was sleeping to make it. He had heard it was super hard to get right and usually takes several attempts to master it, but let me tell ya...he nailed it the first go around. It was amazing. And even more amazing, he made a couple of them, so we will be eating that one tonight with some dinner guests which we invited over specifically so we wouldn't eat the whole thing ourselves. Smart, eh? Yikes, I don't think I'll be stepping on the scale anytime soon. Do you have any idea what's in that stuff? Pure heavenly yumminess!!!

I usually love the Hallmark commercials, but we don't have regular TV right now (that's how I justified the cost of room service, haha) so I haven't seen that commercial. They sure know how to tug at the heart strings, though. Let go of the guilt, Vicki, I'm sure there are worst things that could have been. ;)
