My family is trying to "go green" this year, so I am making reusable grocery bags, and I think some of the Dolly Momas designs will be perfect for personalizing them to each family member!

There are alot of "blanks" out there to do cool gifts. Oriental Trading has a ton of really cute blank products in their craft activity section to make neat personalized gifts. I buy alot of products from them. they are inexpensive and easy to do. I especally love the travel cups, and the address and datebook covers.

oh! and also, I think the xmas dolly mommas would make GREAT stockings for ladies. We always want a stocking up in hopes of getting some "little surprise" from santa. there is so much personality in them, it wouldn't be hard to fit to most anyone you know. I will love making one to put on my mantle!!

Stockings are a great idea for those. Hmmm...I might have to do that. I need to make us all new stocking since we all had matching ones, and then I added another child to the mix and his doesnt match the rest.

would you embroider the stocking, then sew it up? or is there a way to embroider the stock that is already made?

Ellen, I think a plain old tote (without gussets even) would work for the grocery sacks! Just make a rectangle the size you want the bag and add seam allowances and a top hem. Then strips for handles.
I'm going to make my coworker's "green" lunch bags! I can't take credit for the idea, it was on Sew Mama Sew's 30 days of Christmas (http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/index.php?paged=2)projects this week! They are so cute tho. The DollyMama designes will be perfect for these. I've been slowing collecting, LOL.

I saw some really nice ones today but can't tell if there is a gusset or not. They're cheap enough. At Envirosax.com

If the stocking is big enough you could do it on one already done. The last ones I just put names on the tops, but I did some tiny tote bags for a birthday party one time that were pretty hard to get into, but I managed it. Almost pulled all my hair out in the process, but I managed to get them done without stitching the things together, lol.

What a great gift idea - especially for the quilter, but it could be for anyone if we just used a Dolly Mama design!
Question for those who quilt, do you use your embroidery machine & hoop to do the actual quilting part. I have several stipple designs, but I was unsure of how to use them so that they line up. Do you quilt each block as you go then put together with a straight seam or do you sew blocks then quilt and last question what is the trick to keeping the backing fabric from puckering?
Thanks,
Wendy in South West FL

Hi, I am loving this thread that discusses my new product, the "
Quilt in a Cup" It was received beautifully at Market last week. If you are interested, my phone number is 318 247-8151, or 318 247-9725, or you can visit my web site, which for the moment is a look-see only, sorry.
www.quiltinacup.com
should get you there so you can see several completed cups. The kits are $!8.00 plus shipping which is $5.00 for the first cup and $2.50 for each cup after that. The completed cups are $32 for those of you too busy to make one, or just-gotta-have-it-NOW folks, like myself. These are quick and easy to make and are good for all levels of sewers. Fun to put those decorative stitches into use, decorative threads, embroidery, gifts for a bride or bridesmaid with fabrics from the wedding party and monogrammed, birthdays, etc etc. I use some of mine as practice for potential big quilt ideas to see if I like where the project is going, for testing embroideries without having to toss the results, whatever. All supples and directions are included, all you need is about a fat quarter's worth of scraps.:)
I would love to hear from you and get your comments. One of my customers came to me to say she liked keeping the cup in the cupholder of her car because her water bottle fit perfectly in it and kept the water chilled for a long time. I thought that was perfect. Anyway, thanks, again, for whoever started this and thanks, too, for the lovely comments.

Depending on where you live, it is very possible that your local quilt shop handles the kits. I happily sold to shops from all over the world.

Hi Amy,
I did one wall hanging for over my fireplace during the Holidays and I was happy with it as long as no one looked at the back because it puckered. I guess the answer is more pins - ugh I am not patient when it comes to the prep work, but I better learn right?

I do use my embroidery machine for quilting sometimes, more fancy stitches to choose from, plus all those digitized block quilting designs. I have to get this picture thing to work so I can post some great examples of what my daughter and I have done.
Please do, I need all the ideas & help I can get.

I could always do boxer shorts and panties with cute designs. Kids or adults.
Koozies and the travel mugs are fun too!!!

I would love suggestions too! I seem to do a lot of towels. What types of things are people doing for the tween-ager, and adults?

you can do some bags in several sizes, to put your gifts in!!!
that is a great idea, I did last year and everybody loved it!!!
they prefer the bag more than the gift was in it!!!
and in this year they can use it to decorate their home!!
