Hi there, I am new to this forum and am looking for some help with my applique attempts!

I have managed to complete 2 appliques, both of which have had the same problem. Here is my process and problem. I would appreciate any feedback!

I put a medium cutaway stabilizer under the shirt, I iron heat n bond lite onto the applique fabrics.
I attach the hoop and let the machine stitch the initial outline onto the shirt & stabilizer under it, remove the hoop and use a spray adhesive to position the applique fabric onto the shirt. So it's fabric, heat & bond lite, spray adhesive, shirt, cutaway stabilizer.

Next I do the 2nd stitch on the fabric, remove the hoop and cut away the excess fabric. I reattach the hoop and start the 3rd set of stitches. It is here that the machine then stitches slightly off from the original stitches. The first applique it was almost half an inch above it. On the second applique it was less than a quarter of an inch off. So I am left with a satin stitch that doesn't cover my fabric and an outline stitch below it that does.

I am not moving the fabric in the hoop at all. I did a test applique on a loose square of fabric with one fabric color and one thread color so I wasn't removing the hoop so much like with the others where I was using 2-4 fabrics and threads. The same thing still happened.

Thoughts???

Thanks,
Leslie

Leslie,

Have you contacted the person/business that you purchased the designs from? It sounds like the problem is in the design not in your method.

oops. Katie ~ I was just assuming she was asking for help with Jami's new applique designs. I guess my head is on vacation today. I sure hope it's somewhere warm. :D

Hi Leslie,

I'm sure this is a frustrating problem. I would definitely contact the company you bought the design from as they should be able to help you trouble shoot.

This is probably an obvious question that I already know the answer to but thought I'd ask just in case. Are you hooping the stabilizer and fabric together or hooping the stabilizer and then spraying the fabric to it? What type of material are you using? Sometimes when you are trying to line up a fill stitch with a single run outline I could understand a tiny bit of shifting if the hoop is removed during the stitching process or things are not hooped properly, but with as wide as appliqué stitching is that shouldn't be happening.

Keep us posted.

Vicki, I hope Leslie gives us an update. Unless she used a different email to purchase her designs, we have no record of her buying appliqués from us. I would still like to help her out though.

Well, that's good at least to know it wasn't your designs possibly but yes, trying to help is always a good thing for anyone asking for help here. Hopefully she checks back in soon.
