This may seem like a "duh" ?, but how exactly do we post photos on this forum, and what size would be best?

You just use the attachment feature, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, a zip file etc.
To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [Upload Images] button at the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive.
After posting, the image will appear in your post.

You can also just click on the picture of a mountain on the toolbar above where you type your message. A box pops up in the corner. Post the photo's url (if you have it in a Picturetrail or other online photo account or anything from the web) there and the pic will show up in your message. HTH, Ellen

Everytime I try to upload a photo of a project it says that it exceeds the size limit. How can I upload a photo?:o

What is it saying for the size? I'm sure your picture is exceeding the size limits the administrator put on the site. I can't find anywhere what that size is though. If you have photo software, try reducing the size of the picture and try to reupload it again.

Well I am going to try this here. if it works you will see a fish with the letters S.W.A.M on it I made for my Salt water fish club in Maine and their name is "Salt Water Addicts Maine"
<IMG SRC="http://www.ssb4.net/users/11414/dsp_2006_t_shirts_logo__s_011_1161400270.jpg" BORDER=0 width='300'>
How did you do that? If you are using a picture from another website then all you need is just like you had, their address link to the picture. Then click the yellow mountain looking thing at the top of the posting window and paste the address into the box that pops up and nothing other than the address, then hit enter. That's all I did below to get it to show up. I really like that fish. Did you digitize him or use a design and add the letters? He's really pretty with those colors.

Thanks vicki, I tried again this moring and it did not work again, I gave up had to go do errands.
As for the design, I used an existing one re sized it and mirrored it so he would be swimming onto the shirt and not off it, lol Changed their color suggestions to be the real colors. Save it at that point to be able to use alone. Then opened a new project imported the fish and added the lettering. I personalized them with members names.
When I figure out the pictures I will add one of me wearing one.
I did read earlier about what you had done to the design and colors. I really love the way that fish turned out.
I quoted your earlier post and it appears to me that you are using a picture from your computer and you are trying to use the button at the top of your posts with the picture of a mountain. You can't use that one unless you are trying to post a picture from the web somewhere.
To get yours posted it's a little more complicated BUT very easy once you learn.
Here's what you'll need to to so that you can upload a picture from your computer:
When you open a box to post a message, type your message
When done typing, scroll down a bit until you can see the "Upload Images" button.
Click the upload images and a box will pop up and you'll see something that says "Upload file from your computer" and next to that a button that says "Browse"
Click on "Browse" then go to the area on your computer the picture is stored and double click the file you are wanting to post.
After double clicking the file, it should fill in the white box to the left of "Browse" with the file and location within your computer.
The next step is to click "Upload" and wait until it changes and says "Current attachments" and you see your filename listed below that.
Once you can see your filename under "current attachments", click on "close this window" or the X at the top right corner.
After that just hit "submit reply" as you would any other time you are posting.Hopefully that helps you out. Let me know if I made you even more confused. As a bonus for reading you will now get to see a picture of my granddaughter wearing a bib I made for her. (had to upload to get the right directions) LOL
January 2nd, 2008 ETA:Because the rule was created after the picture was posted that all project pics must only be an Embroidables design, I have now removed the picture I had posted here during the tutorial.

Thank you. I hope it helps her and the others having problems uploading pictures. It's very easy once you do it a few times.
She is my very first grandchild that was born Aug 29th. I'm going broke buying and making things for her. Two of my friends and I have made about six or more trips to the Carter's Outlet store now about an hour from here. The women there love to see us come in now since each of spend no less than $100 each on each trip. One trip two of us spent over $200 each. That's just embarrassing to admit knowing she won't wear half those clothes. LOL BUT they are just too cute.:D

Vicki I am not using a photo from my computer. All my photo's are hosted on the web. Since I do post lots of photos, in other places.
Thanks for the help, it would be hard for me to post photos from my computer since I log in on 3 different computers depends where I am. So all my photos are hosted at "sellers sourcebook". com
I will figure it out sooner or later.
Well DUH! I'm an idiot or was tired earlier. I see yours is online now that I rechecked it. DUH!
I would check with the website you have them hosted at. More than likely, you'll find they have something listed in the FAQS or rules that you are not allowed to hotlink your photos from there possibly. It may be on their end rather than here.
Wait ..... I have photos on our own website. I'll go find one and post that to see if I have a problem with that. Wanna see Duff Goldman from the Food Network's Ace of Cakes show? We just saw him about three weeks ago locally. I got a great pic of him.

still cannot figure it out
As it was explained to me:
Wendy -- if your pic is posted on a public site (photobucket, picturetrail, etc.) just copy the url for the photo. Go to the little pic of a "mountain" above where you type in messages. A box pops open in the upper left corner of your screen. Add the picture's url there and it'll appear in your message. To add a photo from your computer's hard drive, go to the Upload Images button below. HTH.

Are there size specifications for what size the posted photo needs to be?
StitchinGrandma

I just use my photo software to resize my pictures. Most of them have that built into them without adding other software to your computer. Do you have any photo software already?
StitchinGrandma
12-03-2007, 10:18 AM
Yes Vicki I do have a photo program on my computer, but never had anything as easy as this tool. Nor do I know how to resize. I would not know how to tell it what size to make it ??
Is it easy to do?
With this tool all I have to do is right click on any photo I want to post and it resizes it right there while it is uploading.
I am willing to learn another way, if it is easily explained. I like learning new things. :)
When you have the picture open in your software you'd want to look for somthing in the program choices at the top that says resize. The size would depend on where you are posting photos and the size requirement they have for their message board. As of now, the size on Jami's site is that the photo cannot be any larger than 600 pixes in any direction so when you are resizing and it shows you the current size, all you want to do is to see the largest pixel size and make that one 600 and most programs will change it without skewing the picture. Most of them have a setting checked that when resizing it will resize in all directions keeping the picture looking the same way.
Since I don't know what software you use, I can't help more than that because they are all different and have different setting names.
I use Paint Shop Pro X2 and in all previous versions resizing is the same. You would click up at the very top on the word "image" and then the drop down box comes up and you'd click on resize. A new window will appear and you just change the pixel sizes there.

Wow, that snow looks great, wish we had some.
I'll share. We just got six inches of snow a few days ago. YUCK!
The first picture is out my sewing room window and the second is what I see while standing in my kitchen cooking or doing dishes. It was a gorgeous snowfall and I could enjoy it much more AFTER my husband got home from work that day since he works an hour away from our home and had to drive in that mess. The trees are still coated with all the snow. I LOVED the way the snow coated all the trees but really loved seeing my lilac bushes to the left of the 2nd picture that day.

We have sure seen our share of ice this year. I feel for you guys. It's been snowing here again since early yesterday morning but it's not very heavy thankfully. I'm sure the police departments were kept busy last night because my husband was seeing people sliding off the road on the way home from work yesterday afternoon. We talked about turning on the police scanner but I didn't get around to it since I was busy making our traditional yummy NYE snacks.

I'm a bit lost here. You download zip files from other websites. Are you saying you don't understand how to unzip them? Or are you asking about the designs from this website?
Assuming you are asking about Embroidables designs, read through this page (http://www.embroidables.com/downloadinstructions/)and see if that helps you at all.

You must have Paint Shop Pro by Corel maybe? I can tell you that with any trial program that I've ever seen that once it's expired you can't even use the program so it isn't something they can charge you for so don't stress that too much. I know if you are talking PSP that's the case. After expiration that program is not usable ~ at least the last I knew. Once the program is expired unless you click the button to purchase it you can't do anything with it.
If you need a software program I can tell you that Corel Paint Shop Pro IS one of the best and compares with the capabiliites of Photoshop but is MUCH more user friendly. That's the program I have and have used since about 1999.
Anyway, let me know later if you need help and if I'm home I will be more than happy to resize them. I have been sick the past three weeks and have been hitting my bed VERY early some nights and even some days. Last night I was in bed by 5:30pm and couldn't even eat supper so when I do get up I'll be happy to get it fixed. I'll PM you my email addy.

If you're running Windows XP you should be able to right-click on the image, click edit and it will open up MS Picture manager. There is a resize option here where you can resize to a defined size, resave your picture, and upload the new one. You could also use Paint, too, but the quality is not as good.

You can use that also. There are two ways to do it: one by using the image size handle built into that program which is in the lower right bottom corner of the picture or by using the attributes under the image menu. The problem is that using the image handle and dragging the pic to the size you want, it just resizes the entire picture space and doesn't maintain the picture in its entirety. Some pics may cut off what you want to have unforutnately. The attributes way where you can enter the size you want the finished picture to be doesn't maintain the integrity of the picture resizing all sides uniformly so you can end up with a skewed picture and it also only resizes the complete area of the picture so you may still have stuff cut off that you wanted to have. I don't mention it because it's kind of a pain to use because of those problems. I guess I'm used to having a good program where I don't have to mess around like that. :D I'm spoiled I guess. LOL

03-12-2008, 11:23 AM
I'm spoiled, too - I use Photoshop because I do a lot of graphic design at work. I was just trying to provide an option where you don't have to buy software just to resize an image. When I resized using Picture Manager, it resized proportionally, but I must have done it differently than you.

Ok so? How did you do it? I never saw anywhere that you could click to retain the size ratio. I guess you've finally found something I'm stupid on and don't know. :p

I did a screen shot to show you where I entered the resize information. If you enter a percentage, such as 50%, it will reduce the entire picture by 50%, which keeps the original proportions, but reduces the size and number of pixels in the picture, thus reducing the file size. Then you just hit save and it saves on top of the original file. Is this what you did? Or are we possibly using two different functions or even two separate programs?

ahaaaaaaa if I right click a picture and then edit it brings up Paint - not picture manager. Hmmmmm That would be the difference here. Must investigate now. I can right click and then "open with" and choose that picture manager but then it will change the program preferences I want to open pics so I didn't mess with it any further.

Aha! I figured that we might be talking about two separate things... if you right-click and select "open with", you can then choose to open the picture with MS Picture manager. I feel better now - I was thinking I was losing my mind! ;)

ok I'm trying to upload a pic from my computer but the box that is supposed to say current attachments does not come up...it just comes up blank...I'm thinking my pics are too big so how do you reduce them? Do you need some kind of editing software? I'm new to this pic. thing so I'm totally confused...trying to enter the inspirations contest and I have other pics. fellow posters want to see...can you help me? thanks
You can open the file in paint, then go tools, stretch and skew, and then in the top 2 boxes, try 50 then 50(%) and that should solve all your problems size wise :)

I'm sorry I haven't been around today. I just got your PM and answered it so as I said in that, if you can email the file to me right now I can help you out. I am about to head to bed because we have to be up at 3am tomorrow and I will not have any access to any computers again until later in the afternoon unless we stop somewhere that has net access and I get my laptop out.
ETA: I need to get to bed since we have to be up again in 4 hours so I will check my email before leaving tomorrow and get it done for you then if you have emailed it to me. What I'd like you to do is to post in the contest thread and type whatever you are going to add to the explanation of your picture. Then add a note that says "waiting for Vicki to upload my picture" and I can edit your post to add the picture(s) to that post of yours.
Um it depends where the files are located in your computer(or if they are still on your camera).
To get into paint, go Start, All Programs, Accessories, Paint. Then click File, Open.
If youre files are still on your camera, click my computer, and then probably what will be called a "removable drive:E" (the letter may be different, may be f, g, etc) double click to open that folder, and then double click on the picture you want.
If youre file have been removed from the camera and put itno the computer itself, then ask hubby where he puts them if he does that, most likely they will be in "my documents" and then "my pictures"(you get to that by doing "file open". Find the picture, and then open that picture by double clicking on it.
Hope that helps :)
