I work for a machine dealer, and I get to sew/embroider most of the day, every day. I tell every customer that will listen about embroidables.com. Jami, you have some of the best designs around, and they stitch out wonderfully. Thanks so much for being here!

Hi Jen,

You may be just the one to ask - I have a Babylock ESe2 and am thinking of asking Santa for a new machine with a larger field of embroidery. As I already have sew many PES designs and PE Design software, I was looking at the Brother Innovis 4000D. Does your dealership carry Brother and have you found the 4000D to be reliable or do you see a lot of repairs. I've heard mixed reviews and would love an unbiased opinion if you care to share.

Thanks,
Wendy

Wendy, I actually work for a Viking dealer, so I'm afraid I don't know much about the Brother machines. Wish I could help you, though! :)

Thanks anyway Jen, I posted in another thread asking for opinions, so far no replies but I'm sure someone will have an opinion and share.

Janome is the only embroidery machine I've had. I'm happy thus far.

If the Brother is somewhat like the Babylocks, it should have an extra long hoop which is great for those taller designs. I had an Ellegeo and loved it for that reason.
I have the Janome 11000, and I can't use some of the taller designs.

I bought the mult-position hoop for larger designs for my Babylock, max of 5 x 12, but find that the designs need to be digitized for that hoop or else I need to spend the time splitting and I'd rather spend the time embroidering:D. I keep going back and forth on the PR 600 and the Innovis 4000D - I don't really need the Disney, I have many on cards and rarely use them as it is, but having the machine on a stand taking more floor space might not work in my sewing area as I took all my old kitchen cabinets and installed them into the sewing room on two walls. A third wall is all closet and the fouth wall is window with a cutting table. As they say, sew many decisions!!!

I've had my 4000D for a little over a year and have had no problems with it. My first machine was a used Brother ULT2001. When I decided to upgrade I did the same as you...I asked several repair people who work on all the brands. They all highly recommended Brother and Janome Machines. Since I already had experience with Brother and had a dealer close by, I bought the 4000D. I seldom ever use the Disney stuff but that's not why I bought it. More lights over the stitch area, auto threader, jump stitch cutting, and USB as well as computer hookup were both a plus. Having a wide variety of hoop sizes....2x2, 4x4, 5x7 and 7x12 come with the machine but I missed my 6x10 so I ordered one.

Every brand will have the occasional lemon but I can say I've been more than satisfied with both my Brother machines.

I love the way the Janome stitches. I just wish it had the extra long hoop. It only came with 2 hoops, and I bought a 5 X 8". I also bought the Macro hoop thinking I could use it for the taller designs, but it is a placement hoop only. I also love the lighting on the Janome. It sure helps these aging eyes.

Thanks for the great input, it is a big investment and I can't afford to make a mistake.

There is a local dealer for the Janome, I will stop in for a demo, I keep hearing good things from happy owners, I just have so many designs and software applications for Brother/Babylock that it is hard to justify a total change.

I have the Brother Innovis 1500D with Disney characters and I love it...it is a sewing machine/embroidery machine...very easy to switch back and forth and everything I do is self taught and I think I do a fairly decent job...I make a little extra money on the side too (so I guess they like it also!)

I have a brother machine for about 8 years, in the beggining it was quite hard, but today I can tell you that I am living so far and I can fix my machine when it has a problem!@!!I have an ULT and I can tell you that it is very good

I own both a BabyLock (PES) & Pfaff. Both are incredible depending on what your projects entail. I prefer the Babylock because it does all sizes & the software is much easier to navigate, however they both work really well.

Doesn't if feel wonderful to be self sufficient and be able to fix your own machine. My town just got a local Babylock retailer, but previously I had to go almost 70 miles for cleanings & repairs, then they were so behind I would have to be w/o a machine for 2-4 weeks.

I've not considered the Pfaff because I have not been able to see it in person but those that I know who own them love them, I just prefer to buy after I've touched & played. I'll make time to go into the dealership and check out the newest Babylock - thanks for sharing.
