I bought 2 stockings at the Pottery Barn with the intent of putting my neice and nephews name on them. The stockings will not fit over my sewing arm. Any suggestions short of taking the seam out of one side....and risk tearing these up? I have a Viking Scandanavia 300 machine? thanks. I love this message board. :)

Could you turn them inside out and use spray adhesive? You would probably have to sit with to keep the fabric out of the way. HTH:)

I would float them on the hoop. Do a fix stitch around where the stitching will go or use an adhesive. I've done it many times that way so it can work. ;)

You may need to rip a side seam out. I had bought some small tote bags and I had to tear the side seam on one side in order to get the embroidery I wanted onto them. I was scared but it went really well.

Sorry sort of new to this. I know they make the spray adhesive but still not sure how to use it. If it is not wide enough for my hoop. I am nto sure i am following. I might have to rip the side seam out but goodness that scares me.

I just embroidered 4 of those for a friend. They were a quilt like stocking and I had to take a seam ripper to each side to get them to hoop and lay flat.

I got it to work and I'm sure you can too. Just take your time.
Good luck!

to float the object you turn it inside out and place the area to be stitched facing up, on top of the hooped stabilizer. Use sticky stabilizer (not my favorite - it gums up the needle) or spray adhesive to hold the item down. You can baste around the design area, or pin it outside the area. You need to gently pull the upper part of the object away from the stitching area as it sews - hope this helps!

I just embroidered on four stockings using sticky stabilizer, only. They all puckered. Some not as bad. The next time I do an unhoopable item, I should use sticky stalbilzer AND based around the area? If I do the basting thing, do I base stich the item to the sticky stabilizer? Or am I way off on this whole thing?
