I was asked by Corinne's music teacher to dye some silks for her classes. It was so much fun that I bought more blanks for myself to dye and give as gifts. They're great for peek-a-boo with the little ones, dancing with the toddler and pre-school ones, and they make great dress-up chest items, too. Corinne has used hers as capes, pirate hats, bird wings.... endless variations!! We have some 22x72" blue ones that DH and I will grab on the ends and make "water" that Corinne "swims" through or jumps over. She's getting some aquatic life puppets for Christmas to join in the action.

You can also embroider names quite nicely...

Oooh, those colors are gorgeous! I have a dye kit that I've been dying to use, but haven't had the chance yet. Looking at yours, I might have to pull it out after the holidays and get to it! :)

Is this just regular, run of the mill Rit dye? Or is it the technique that makes the colors so scrumptious? Beautiful stuff!

Those are acid dyes. They're powdered dye that you dissolve in hot water and then after a bit, you add some white vinegar to "set" the dye. It's really a very easy process, and I got the supplies from Dharma Trading, and their CS is fantastic, too. I called several times with questions and they were so helpful.
