I wanting to embroider a logo on a pullover windjacket. How does one know exactly where this embroidery should be placed on the left breast? I am new to embroidery and am looking forward to learning lots from these threads. Thanks!!

What size windjacket? Depending on the size of it depends where I put it. A ladies XL, I would go over 4inches from midline and 8inches down from the shoulder seam. If you have a smaller jacket then adjust 1/4 inch each way for eacy size down. If it is a mens large use the same measurement.

I forgot to mention that the above measurement would be your center of design. I would put a pin there and try the jacket on to see if you like the placement. If there is a pocket or a yolk, you may have to adjust... hope this helps

When I was first starting, I'd actually put the garment on and pin a print-out where I wanted it. (If it didn't fit, I'd still lay it on me and do the same.)

There's a little doo-hickey shaped like an "L" that helps with placement, but I don't have one (nor do I know the name... sorry!).

Good luck!!

here is a link for that little L shaped thingy.... :)

This device makes lining up where a logo is supposed to go on tee shirts and polo shirts easy and simple. It also helps to center monograms on napkins, table linens and towels. This is available in both youth and adult sizes.

Yippeee! She found it! I had forgotten about it, or I'd have gone back and looked for it myself.

Have any of you used it?

When I first started embroidering, I read on a board about an easy rule of thumb for placement on a polo shirt which eliminates tedious measuring (and which also works on just about any other garment I've tried it on).

Drop down from the seam where the collar meets the garment's shoulder seam (imagine a vertical line) to the center point of the sleeve opening, halfway between the shoulder and the armpit seams (horizontal line). The center of the design will be placed at the intersection of these two lines.

Do be careful to keep the lines perpendicular and aligned properly with the placket in front or any other obvious horizontal or vertical element so you don't end up with text that runs downhill or a tipsy graphic.

It's always worked for me, and no matter what size the garment, the design ends up in the right place. Give it a try! And let me know if I need to clarify any of the above ;)
