I hope you guys don't think "What was she thinking?".. but here goes!(And I hope I put this in the right board?:o ) I made a couple of these simple inserts and put a starbucks giftcard with them and I made the notepads myself..I designed them as a postcard size and printed them on a letter size paper..cut them down and took them to kinkos to have them "padded" for a mere .50 cents!

I think it's awesome! I've designed my own paper before too, but how did you do yours? Did you design them on the computer and then print them or design them on paper and then do color copies??? Thanks for sharing! I've got more wheels spinning in my head now!

Those are great looking! I love anything with chocolate and pink. She might not want to use that pad, it's so pretty.

Where did you find the cups and what size hoop did you use? I'd love to find some I could do in my 5x7 (140x200mm) hoop!

We(3 of my sewing girlfriends and myself) all pitched in and ordered a decent amount for gifts...We had an"open house" of small things that we had embroidered and made ourselves. They absoutely flew off the "shelf"..We had to do a 2nd order. They are from somewhere in CA and i can post when i get home to let you know the web address(I'm at work..oops!)
I used my 5x7 hoop and the initials are 3 1/2 --4 in. tall..

I'd love the website if you don't mind! I made the assumption that the cup liner was an "in the hoop" project, hence my comment about my 5x7 hoop...
Again, well done!!! :)

Those are awesome looking and anyone getting them will be very proud to get them. Good thing her initial is on that mug or she'd have to keep it in her hands at all times because the other teachers will try to snatch it. LOL

Ok, it's been awhile since I have been to Kinko's (I practically lived there when I worked for my previous company.). So, what do you mean when you say "took them to Kinko's and had them "padded" for a mere .50 cents"?

I'm pretty sure she means that Kinko's will bind the pages with the gummy stuff at the top of a note pad for $.50. (Boy, that's not an easy thing to describe!)

Help, please! I went to bizmugs.com and all I get is a home page with google ads at the top. Is there a way to see their merchandise? Thanks!!

What a fun idea! And so beautiful. I'd actually enjoy toting my own cup of coffee to school if I had one that pretty. I'm getting WAY too many ideas around here. I should go finish toting Christmas decs to the basement instead...

good tip on the price for padding. I knew exactly what you were talking about because I had 'recycle' office paper into pads...many years ago. This year I wanted to make custom stationary out of art work of a little girl I know. The cost to have them print and pad was too high...but I never thought about printing myself and having them pad it.
Thanks for the idea.
Beautiful project!

I was able to connect to the www.bizmug.com site this morning, so those of you who are interested might want to check it out. I will try to speak with a customer service rep at the company later this morning. I LOVE this idea and would really like to try it! I'll let you all know what I learn.

Okay, Mom, this is so sad. We talked on the phone for how long this afternoon, and I forgot to ask you about this... What did you learn?

Well, it was one of those days at school, and I didn't get a break this afternoon to make that call. Being as how there is a good chance the office staff and custodians will be the only people in the building tomorrow due to potential flooding (the river's rising, and our school is situated right on the river), I'm thinking that making a phone call will not be a problem.

Got the scoop! Go to www.bizmug.com and find digital plastic tumbler under plastic mugs. If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you the price I was quoted for the blanks without paper artwork. I did just get a quote on 72, but that would give you a place to start. I'm all excited about this idea!

Well, DUH. I always reply using quick reply. No wonder I couldn't add pictures. Anyway, here's the travel tumbler in question. I guess I can post the price - $2.49 each in when you buy 72. It would take a group buy, but that is a really good price.

Yep, you gotta use the full post but if you haven't seen it yet, above the quick post, you can click on "go advanced" and that will open the full to where you can see the place to add pics etc.
Those cups are "the big new thing" this past Christmas season where all kinds of people started selling those things. I'm still a bit gun shy because about 10 yrs ago I got a coffee mug similar to that and it leaked terribly and never did "close" to keep the insert dry or clean. Are they any better now?

I am soo sorry guys to have been out of the loop for so long...good research you guys!! That is exactly what we do, my 4 girlfriends and i split the 72 a piece pricing.. which gives us 18 a piece. I gave ALOT of mugs for xmas this year..haidresser, dd bus driver, neighbors, dh family secret santas at work and of course teachers. Some i gave just the mug, some got a starbucks giftcard with it and some got pads with theirs...
I have been using mine for almost a year...no leaks as of yet.! Sometimes when i'm feeling lazy i just leave the insert in the mug and throw it in the dishwasher..Still using the same insert too(it's a Tennessee Titans fabric!!)AND if it did get yucked up, it just gives me reason to make myself a new one!:coffee:

Glad to know that the leakage question has been answered. I wondered about that. I've seen some of this type of mug in craft stores that look sort of cheesy, and I would fully expect them to leak. Thanks for the good info, tflosses4u!

Yes just tell him that you need just blanks..i would think it would be great for them since they don't have to do any extra work to the actual mugs themselves!

Thank you for the website. I work in a Dr.'s office and this will make wonderful gifts this coming Christmas.
This is a GREAT idea. I was trying to come up with something to use as favors at my son's wedding and wanted to purchase personalized coffee cups, but they are so expensive. You bet I'm going to look into doing this.

I was able to find these mugs at an embroidery blanks website, and the great thing is...you don't have to buy 72 of them. I recently ordered just 4 to try them out. Bad part is they're about $6 and some change each, but it's alot cheaper than buying 72 at once if you just really can't use that many.
What a grea gift idea!! What program did you use to design your notepad?

I NEED some of these. If there is anyone out there interested in a group buy, I would be happy to organize it.
Please PM me if you would like 6 (or multiples of 6) travel tumblers @ $2.50 each plus actual tax/shipping costs. Deadline to respond: Monday, February 11. I will keep you all informed as to whether this is a "go" or not.
Thanks!

what a wonderful gift, as a teacher, I can tell you that this was greatly appreciated. I am very impressed with your computer skills as well. I just came back from the merchandise mart in Atlanta and I saw items almost like yours. Stores were snatching them up. Everything looks so professional, a beautiful job.

I had this thread in "watch" mode. I am glad I did, because it has been a while since I visited here. You know, same old same old, so much going on ....too much computer work to do.
I still think those are great teacher gifts. I will try to remember them for the new school year. (hence, watching the thread)
My teacher got an embroidered sunglass case some chocolates and a lip balm....all at the last minute.

The mug is so pretty, is it fabric or paper that the J is embroidered on? You are very creative, the note paper is also so pretty!
