Hey guys, i need some help.. This may be on another board but i hope not! My cousin just got an embroidery/sewing machine. Her husband wants to know what software Santa needed to bring this year. The one i have is not very good and I don't want to rec. that one to her. Can you guys help me out? I will send him directly to these boards and if he has any questions maybe you all will be able to help.

It really depends on what she's wanting to do. I do not have it myself, but it's my next purchase when we have the extra money and many, many people recommend it but tell him she wants to buy Embird so she can play around with digitizing too. ;) There are different modules you can buy with Embird so she can buy just the parts she wants and if the ones are purchased just for the editing purposes, then later she can add the part which will allow her to do digitizing.
I know nothing about it but others recommend buzz edit as well.
There's another one that's a free program but my mind is not coming up with the name of that one right now. Maybe someone else will mention that program and will remember the name.
I own the Husqvarna 3D software and really like the editing tools it has but that program has now been updated and a newer version called 4D has been released.

Embird is probably the most affordable, and easy to use. I only have the basic one, and can do a lot with that. I also have Janome Digitizer Pro, which is made by Wilcom, the one that has such a good reputation, or so I have heard. It is not inexpensive, and there is a pretty steep learning curve, but it is great once you learn how to work with it.

Thanks guys!! I will pass this along to him ..uh..Santa..My cousin will be surprised and delighted with the fact that he is encouraging this addiction..I tried to warn her:p
To the fellow that wants to buy his wife a nice gift for her machine. You could go to the store where she got her machine and they can recommend a lot of different options or get her a gift certificate so she can get what she wants.

If Embird is compatable with her machine, you can't go wrong for the money. Most dealers will try to sell you softward that can go in the thousands of dollars and is very hard to figure out. Just my 2 cents.

I highly recommend Embird Basic with additional plug ins.... Iconizer to start with, then add Font Engine later then Studio when you are ready to digitize. Also with Embird, there are dozens of places, not to mentions the forums, where you can get help with Embird if you need it.
No offense to Sam but I have never seen a store even admit that any editing programs such as Embird actually exists, much less recommend anything other than the high $$$ digitizing programs their brands support. If someone is looking for a brand supported digitizing program, the stores are the place to go. Not sure about support from them once the sale is final.
