I started collected Longaberger baskets when I married into my dh's family. That was only because my mil sold it. She would buy one for me for birthdays and holidays. The longer I have been in the family, the bigger they get! These are a practical item for me to collect, because I can use them.
With three kids, anything else would get broke around here.

I collect thimbles of places that either I have visited or my hubby or family members. When my parents went to England, Scotland and Wales last summer, my wonderful mother brought me 6 thimbles.

I collect salt and pepper shakers - mostly really unique ones. I have a Christmas collection that I put out only at Christmas. The ones everyone loves the most are the ones that look like light bulbs.
I also collect Seraphim 12" angels by Roman. I have a curio full, but I need to get the last 2 that came out. I have room for 2 or 3 more, and then I'm quitting. They are so peaceful to look at.

Wow... Windwillow,
What a nice organized sewing room!
Dawn
I was just about to say the same thing, even before I saw your post, Dawn. I am one of those people that likes things very organized and for the most part each room of my house is pretty much that way. EXCEPT, and that's a big except, my studio. I can't keep on top of it. Especially like right now when I'm test stitching like a mad woman trying to get lots of new sets out. We won't even talk about what it looks like right this minute. But, I think you'd all forgive the mess since it does mean new collections. :)
Speaking of...I'm just about done with Renae's music and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I enjoy listening to music, but I have absolutely no musical talent whatsoever. But, can I tell you how cool these designs are...gorgeous! I will definitely be finding a use for them, music or not.
Also, in the works are some 4x4 Dolly Mama's. People have been begging for these for a very long time. They'll be brand new sayings...no repeats.

I collect vintage pillowcases with embroidery and crochet (unused). I have been fascinated by embroidery and crochet combined since I was very young. The other thing is Shelley china, but I had to stop when every bit of my dining room was full to the brim with it. They are kind of like pet rocks (old enough to remember those?) in that they just sit there looking pretty. Oh, and embroidery designs. Good thing they don't take up much room, except on the hard drive!

I guess I collect small scissors. No brand name or anything just cute small emb or sewing scissors.
I like things nice and organized, too.
My hubby and I built the upper cabinet for above my sewing table this recently past Christmas. I LOVE it!!!! He built me the sewing table also... a Christmas present 10 or so yrs ago.
BTW...We they couldn't get the new cabinet in through the house. It wouldn't fit! They had to take it back outside and take the window out of the bedroom and get it in the house that way:eek:
The pic is right after it was put up and we were tidying things back up. Not quite reorganized at that point.

Nice cabinet, isn't it wonderful to have someone to show they care about you and what you enjoy doing (sewing and stuff). I am so happy for you, now what are you going to make him?

I collect all manner of items related to my home town in IL. There is considerable history, and the silica sand deposits have made for glass products of all sorts, including Peltier marbles. One of my favorites is an old wooden street sign with "Main Street" in tin letters, which was at one time applied to the side of a building that my grandparents owned downtown.
What I need to do is collect less cluttery stuff - files of magazine articles and clippings, stacks of catalogs, that kind of thing. Lean and mean is my battle cry for 2008!

Nanamcd,
Cool, history is so important, we (my hubby, dogs and me) go on history jaunts all over the place. To have a piece of it is even better.
Keep going girl.

My hubby does support what I do. For that I am thankful. And although I have not embroidered him anything since the cabinet was made, I have sewn him a pair of flannel pj bottoms with black labs all over. We have a chocolate lab and he loves her! Also I have emb him shirts for his business.

LOVE..the carry out menu comment.
I don't really intentionally collect anything either. I just have stuff...too much stuff....not enough places to put it. I am a cluttered mess.

You mentioned pet rocks, among everything else, I have rocks from everywhere, Harpers Ferry, Bar Harbor, Maine, Manassas, New Mexico, Belize,, they usually are about 4-6 " across and 5-12 " tall, I like to display them, now most of the are delegated to the guest room (out of space). Does anybody else still collect rocks beside me, my husband, my daughter, and my niece?

Ummm... fabric and embroidery designs LOL
I guess I also collect shot glasses from places I've been but generally keep it to one per State. It's funny though because I don't really drink.
I also collect wooden locally made(if i can find them) sailboat ornaments from different places - talk about hard to find. Some look like pirate ships, others rowing boats but they are fun to put up on the tree at Christmas.
