Hello my name is Jami Johnson and I am an embroidery addict… so much so that it led me to start this website. Through Embroidables.com, we have been blessed to make friends with some of the greatest people from all over the entire world. We consider our customers as more than friends and love and appreciate each one of you.

It seemed selfish not to introduce you to the many other great friends that we have meet as a result of this business. We hope that this message board can accomplish just that. If you haven’t done so already, go ahead and post a message introducing yourself to the other members of our embroidery community.

Hey! My name is Debi and I love the "embroidables designs". I am new to embroidery and just got my Brother Innovis 4000LTD machine about a month ago. I am having a blast and learning so much! I look forward to this forum getting going. Can't wait to meet and emboidery with ya'll! Yes, I'm a southern gurl.

Hi Debi,

Welcome to the board! I can't wait, too, for it to get going. It'll be a fun and welcoming place to come chat. Thanks for the nice posts. :)

I'm a southern girl, too. Kind of. I was raised in TN and left there when I went off to college out west. But, my extended family still lives there and I love going back to visit. Although I have lost most of my southern accent, I occasionaly say "ya'll" and "fixin'". My DH does say though, that on occasion when I get mad (yes, on occasion, :)) my accent comes out. Not that he knows from personal experience. :)

Where are you from in the south?

Jami

Yeah, Jamie, from Virginia Beach but my folks were from North Carolina. Spend alot of time in Hatteras but never picked up my Dad's accent which was quite thick. They talk differently from anyone down there.
So, we need to get this forum going! I have LOTS of questions. :D
Fondly,
Debi

Hello, I'll introduce myself a bit here. My name is Mollie, and I'm a mom to 6 great kids (3 boys, 3 girls)! We're in MN, where the snow will be flying soon! Ugh!

Anyway, I'm relatively new to embroidering. I have a Babylock Esante ESE2 machine that I really like. I do have lots of questions that I need help with, mostly about which stabilizers for which fabrics/projects.

Glad this board is here! Hope I can make some friends here too!

BTW, LOVE the Embroidables designs!!! I need to save some money to get some, especially the baby/kids ones.

Welcome, Mollie!

Wow, 6 kids, huh? Where on earth do you find the time to sew/embroider? My guess, if you're like me, would be after they are all in bed? Or perhaps they're all grown and in school or out on their own. My SIL has 6 cuties and I know her life is very crazy right now..oldest is 13 and youngest is 4 mo. I only have three little boys and that alone keeps us plenty busy...fun busy, but busy.

I am sure with a little time this message board will be rockin' and you'll get lots of help and good advice about stabilizers, thread, etc. I personally will give you my opinion for what it's worth. I've done a little ;) embroidering myself and have pretty much tried it all. However, everyone has their own favorites and I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks. Keeping it positive, of course.

On all of our stitchouts we use a brand of stabilizer called John Solomon (http://www.johnsolomon.com/index.htm). For most things I use the medium weight tear away. However, you'll want to match up the stabilizer to the project and design.

With that said, I am sure I'll get a million people wanting to know where to buy this stabilizer and you might be surprised to know you are possibly already using it. They sell under private labels and have a list of retailers on their website.

As for thread, I LOVE Isacord...the best quality and great color choices. Plus, I never have a bit of trouble washing it.

If you have questions about specific projects/fabrics ask away...we'll all try our best to help.

Again, welcome and I look forward to getting to know you better!

Jami

Thank you Jami!

LOL, I grab whatever few minutes I have here & there, and of course afgter they go to bed. I'm 31 yrs old, my oldest is 14, the youngest is almost 10 months.

The trouble I have the most is trying to put designs on T-shirts. The design always gets off centered on some colors, and then it's ruined. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I think I need to have my machine serviced, so that might be the problem. I use a medium cut away on the back, with a water soluable on the top. And it's always the last 2 colors of the design that get messed up, like the black for outlining, for example. It's very frustrating!

Is there a trick to doing T-shirts? I'm just trying to put a cute design in the middle of it.

Thank you again for all of your tips!

Hey Mollie,

Oh my, you do have your hands full. What a marvelous woman you are!!

From a private email that you sent to us you said,

“I haven't had the pleasure of using your designs yet. So it's other designs that give me grief. They are mainly free ones I've found at other sites, as I can't afford to spend a lot on designs. Thank you for helping me with this.”

Here is my experience with some free designs, (without naming other companies). They can often be pretty expensive when you consider the cost of your time and materials. As a mother of 6 I’m sure that your time must be very limited and valuable to you. Ruined t-shirts, and wasted stabilizer and thread, can also make things expensive in a hurry. Although there are other places that have less expensive designs, we have many customers who have told us that our designs are the best value that they have found because they never have to worry about the designs stitching our correctly. They also like that all of the images on our site are actual stitch outs of the designs, so you are assured that what you see is what you’ll get.

As for the alignment problems, it is most likely being caused by one of three things. The quality of the digitizing, the stabilizer used, or a lack of tautness when hooping the fabric/stabilizer.

Since the designs didn’t come from us, I can’t speak to the quality or lack thereof with respect to the digitizing… It may or may not be the cause of the problem, I don’t know. As for stabilizer and hooping technique. We have some really good information located on our “tips” webpage (http://www.embroidables.com/store.php?page=Tips) that should be able to help you with both stabilizer as well as hooping technique.

It’s always good to get tips from multiple people. If anyone else has any suggestions feel free to chime in.

Thank you Jami! I replied to the email you sent me. That tips page is very helpful! I think that hooping & the stabilizer are my problems. I will have to try different things to get it right.

Thanks again!!

Hi all,
MY name is Candy and I have been embroidering for a while. I am by no means as great as some people are but I enjoy it. For my 40th birthday I decided I had wanted a embroidery/craft machine for years, literally like 20 years or so. So I decided to buy a machine, I got a singer quantum xl 150 and I did purchase the software that goes with it. I have enjoyed it a lot and I must say that I buy and get so many free designs its not funny. At the sewing expo here in Washington in Feb I visited the embroidables booth and got a good sale on some designs. I not only got buy 2 get one free, but I also got $25.00 free for a later purchase. So I do have some designs, but due to health problems I have not used them yet. Im like a moth Ive been drawn to the bright colors and the clever designs.
thanks for this forum. Candy Berg in Washington.

i'm sure many people have their favorite places to shop for blanks, but i'll tell you my all time favorite...http://www.allaboutblanks.com. Wonderful selection, great prices, and fantastic service! I just recently did several projects (the halloween pillow, http://www.embroidables.com/store.php?page=Project&ProjectID=38 and some others I'll be sharing soon) with their blanks and they were very nice quality and stylish. i hope that helps.

Hello,

I'm a 44 year old mom of 7 year old boy/girl twins. I have enjoyed sewing for over 35 years, and bought my embroidery machine almost 7 years ago, when there were many fewer options for designs. I have a Bernina and I also have the software. I have to say that your designs are about the best there are, and I've sewn a lot of them. You're right about what the true cost is when you consider your time and the garment costs. I also think your designs are the cutest ones our there:) .

I buy most of my "blanks" from local discount stores, like Target and Fred Meyer. I like that I can see the sizes and colors, feel the fabric, and get to take it right home and stitch it out (after I pre-shrink it, of course). Most discount stores have their own store brand that is quite economical (like $4-6for children's t-shirts and $7-10 for adults). Then you don't have to pay shipping costs either. I also like to make garments and quilts from fabric after I have stitched the design on it. I find that this is easier than trying to get everything perfectly centered and then keeping the rest of the garment out of the way while stitching out the design. I even scout out the factory stores for their racks of clothes with holes and stains. I have even picked up a few bargains where I have sewn a cute design over a small hole or stain to cover it up and then had a super cute, high quality garment for just a few dollars.

For the gal who was having problems with the garment shifting for the last few colors of the design: Do you stabilize the whole hoop area or just the area of the design. While some colors in some designs are inherently off, stabilizing the whole hooped area may help. You may also want to make sure that you are using the smallest sized hoop that your design will fit into. I had to buy the medium sized hoop that fits my machine, but it has made the quality of my designs turn out much better.

Wow, I rambled for quite a while.

Happy stitching to everyone!

stress or fun!!!

I have the Brother 270D. I have never been able to complete a design. Every time I get to the second color the machine jams and my design is ruined. I want to make something so bad. I have bought everything known to man and can't get one design done. With all the holidays coming up I would love to make a shirt for my 2 year old daughter. I also have one on the way any day and I want to make matching shirts SO badly. I don't usually have a problem with the font b/c its only one color but everything else I have a problem with. It gets so frustrating and it should be FUN! Suggestions or tips anyone? I just got the machine a couple of months ago. Does anyone else have problems?
Thanks

I find myself browsing through your site all the time, and love your collections. You can tell by looking at them, that they will stitch out beautifully. Just learning how to use the message board. I have a few questions to ask .. where is the best place for me to post?

I also love seeing pictures of people's projects .. I find myself loving so many designs, but I run out of ideas on "what" to make. Wish I had taken pictures of things I've made to share with everyone here. Guess I'll have to make something soon! :D

I just purchased a used machine on Thanksgiving weekend. Ours was about 3 weeks ago.
I bought a Babylock Esante, and my spouse is already looking at bigger and better ones. He is hooked.
I love your designs, just waiting to be able to buy them. In time.
I am the mother of 4. Two boys 19 and 18 and two girls 16 and 11. My second son has Autism. I have been searching for a design that is for Autism support if anyone knows of one.
I really look forward to doing some homemade projects for Christmas this year.

Just thought I would introduce myself.

Have a great day

Good morning ~ I just found the message board via the ad email I just got. I'm so glad the message board is added to this because it will make me get additional emails and remind me of the site. I have so many sites that I can't always remember some of my favorites and this is one of those. I LOVE your designs and wish I could buy every single one of them.

My name is Vicki. I'm 48 yrs old, married to a man that makes all our friends jealous of me because he treats me like a queen. :D I'm very lucky. One of the things he did was to spoil me and buy me a Designer 1 sewing machine a few years ago and then the following year a 936 serger too. I spend so much time on my computer though I don't get as much sewing done as I really could/should be. We have four boys, all out of the house now and just had our very first grandchild August 29th, a little girl. I'm THRILLED that I finally have a little girl to spoil and sew for. YAY

And here I am, adding yet another place to kill time instead of sewing. HA! Oh well, gotta have friends on the internet to chat about sewing, right.

We have been in business for about two years, and we have just revamped our site with all new products made with the best kid friendly fabric ever, Oilcloth!! Your site was one of the first I found when I bought my embroidery machine. I have used so many of your designs. We had to create our own design for our products because of copyrights, and that has been so fun to do. I can imagine how much you enjoy your job working with artist who are so creative. Just keep up the good work, as you guys have always been an inspirations to us.

I will retire next year at 20 years. I have 2 children. My son has 3 step-children, and my daughter has a son (nearly 3) and a daughter (6mos.), and I am in hog heaven sewing for her.

Hi I live in Ct. I have a 5 yr old DD. And have been sewing for about 3 years now. My mom always sewed but I was not interested untill I went into a beautiful quilt shop one day with my mom. I was going to stay in the RV because DD was sleeping and I was not interested in Fabric ! But my SF was there and he said he would stay with her. So I went in and right away fell in love with some beautiful fabric. And said to my Mom, "Mom what could you make with this?" and she said "YOU could make what ever you want" lol.
The shop owner came over and said I quess you don't quilt dear. Would you like to see some things, as she showed me lots of ideas I thought yes I could do that. So she offered to give me a free lesson. Mom was too much into shopping for MORE FABRIC. Since we had our RV in her yard Mom said we have all the time you need. She tought me how to Paper Piece and made my first quilt block. Now I am so hooked and Love it. I love putting the embroidery designs into my quilts.

Hi my name is Carol, and I don't know how I missed this thread in my 100+ posts, but this is the first time I read it. Nice to "meet" you all through your posts.

I stay at home, have one son, and a husband of nearly 23 years. I have been embroidering since 1998 when we were building a house in a new town, and I had to look up "septic tank" installers in the phone book. I saw "sewing machines" right after that listing, and ended up with my first Janome 9000 before the house was even built! Nine years of fun later, I have a semi-industrial, and am the moderator of the Monogram Wizard Yahoo Group. That keeps me on the compter a lot, and I don't get as much embroidering done, but it's a lot of fun, as is this group.

Hi my name is Yevonne and I'm from SC....originally from PA but my husband and I have been down here for 18 years. I do say y'all sometimes. I have been emb. for about 5 years now. First on a Singer XL1000 (which my 16 year old daughter now has) , but now I use a Babylock Ellageo.
I had a lot of trouble with t-shirts and have tried many things. What I have found to work the best is to spray your cut away stablizer (it should be a piece that is bigger than your hoop so that it will be caught in the hoop and it should be a fairly crisp stabilizer and not prone to bunching), with an adhesive basting spray(not permanent) then stick it to the back of your project area. Then hoop the project with the stabilizer on the back of it. I also slide a piece of tear-away underneath after I have the hoop on the machine.
With the stabilizer stuck to the back of the fabric and the fabric and stabilizer both hooped it helps keep the t-shirt material from shifting during sewout.
I hope it works for you.

Hello everyone,
I just joined this forum so I may become more familiar with the "embroidery world" because I am very new to everything! I was solely into sewing, making clothes and other items on a small scale and mostly for family use and gifts but I am trying very hard to supplement my income with something I can do FROM HOME as I have young children and need to avoid daycare costs-- and I am hoping that "small scale" embroidery will be the solution for me!
If anyone has any advice, feel free to send it my way, thank you!

Be sure to check the contests area as one never knows when a new one will pop up in there. The only rule to keep in mind is that any designs must be from Embroidables unless they specify any others in the announcement of each contest.

Let me know if you need any help.

I'm glad you finally joined a message board and chose this one to try first. Of all I've been on, this one so far is probably one of the best. I say that because this one has a great bunch of people and they are here for the purpose of learning and helping others learn the art of embroidery. On some message boards there is a lot of bickering and also some bashing of other members which we aren't going to allow here. Have fun and come back and visit us often. Jami and David are great for their quick contests so keep your eye out for those.

I can't say that I'm an embroidery addict, but I do hear that the 1st step is to admit that I have a problem! ;)

I have been sewing since I was about 4 years old, when I would sew buttons onto scraps of fabric. My aunt always lived with us, and she was a professional seamstress at one of the big department stores in downtown Indy. She taught me to sew, and we lost her just this year on Feb. 1. She would have been 88 on the 25th of that month. I learned to smock when my older daughter was nearly 1, and soon after, picked up heirloom sewing. We lived in East Tennessee at the time. From there, we moved to the Chicago area, and I ended up with a small sewing business specializing in classic children's clothing and country jumpers.

My academic background is in Music Education, but it seemed that every time I got a job, my husband would get transferred. We found out about our 1st move (Indy to E TN) a week after we got married! Down there, we had our 2 daughters. They are now 23 and 21. The oldest graduated in May from Indiana U. with degrees in Apparel Merchandising, Costume Construction Technology, and Fashion Design (yep, Mama is proud!). She is now an assistant designer at a local dancewear company. The younger is currently in school for beauty/cosmetology. My husband has a daughter, and she and her husband have 2 sons, 8 and 10. My DH works for PepsiCo, so I'm happy to see the Pepsi "smiley" here! :pepsi:

I got my embroidery machine one year ago today (although it didn't come out of the boxes right then!). I struggled long and hard about spending that kind of $$$ on myself. I ended up justifying it by thinking, "DH has his antique pool table and his dear little '63 VW bug. At least I can make $$ with my toy!" I still have a lot to learn, so I'm glad I found this forum!

A little over a year ago I also tackled my largest sewing project to date. (and please SHOOT me if I agree to anything like it in the future!) I made a castle  for the high school madrigal group that my friend directs! WHAT WAS I THINKING??? 200 yds of 10-ft wide muslin became a castle with 2 arched doorways on 2 walls, a large entry on another wall that led to a 48-ft tunnel, and the front was 15 ft. high and 18 ft. wide with an opening to the tunnel. The stagecraft kids turned that pile of muslin into a castle with a lot of paint!

Sorry for the ramble, but that's a little bit about me!

Hi All...

What a great site so far. Everyone seems so nice and I've already learned stuff just by reading a few posts...

I live in the far east valley east of Mesa, Arizona area. I'm 56yo. I live here with my better half who is the love of my life and who will make an honest woman outta me one day. We have been together for 5 years now. It's been the happiest 5 years of my entire life. He's 59yo and retired. We live in a very rural desert area have no animals or children.

I love to sew and started when I made that wrap around skirt in Home Ec class back in my early school years. Those of you who are in the same age bracket will remember that. I started there and never stopped. I love to make things rather than buy them. That includes many things not just clothing, pillow cases and dish towels.

My most recent projects include several reconstructed blouses, that's my thing and welding hats for my baby. I used a 20 year old hat of his to make a pattern from and made him 2 for Christmas. If any of you are familiar with them they are different now than they were 20 years ago. I made two different back packs for my baby's grand niece and nephew for Christmas. If anyone is even remotely interested I can be coerced into posting pictures :D

I have made a couple of quilts but I'm not a big fan of repititious designs that is so typical of most quilts. It makes me kinda crazy. I would like to plan a more artistic one this year. I can't wait to decide the colors and design as we will be doing some painting this year also. A new color on the wall means a new bed cover right!!??

I am brand new to embroidery. I'm guessing that my new machine will change all that. http://www.pfaffusa.com/72_73.html
I kinda wish I had it BEFORE Christmas rather than after but now my gifts next year will be even more fun and will definately entail embroidery...

That's all I can think of just now..
Rock On

Welcome Maxine! You'll have to share the secrets to doing reconstructive stuff that you've been doing. I have a pattern I'd found to turn a mens dress shirt into the cutest little girls dress. When my granddaughter is older I'm going to play around with that and do some of those.

I love quilts, but am just like you in that aspect - too much repetition although I do make baby quilts for friends and relatives having babies.

Thanks Vicki... I'll be happy to share what I know, and I'll gather some pics to post. I would love to know more about that pattern that you are referring to.. Is it a home made pattern or a purchased one? It sounds so cute. I've seen some toddler's dresses made from pillow cases and one dress with a cute denim skirt and an empire like bodice... so cute...

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm so anxious to learn machine embroidery techniques with my new Pfaff. Perhaps someone here has the same machine, or a similar model.

It's one that I adapted from another small laptop quilt which is really the perfect size for a crib quilt although I add one extra four inch wide row of blocks in both directions to make it just a tad bit longer and wider.

Oops. Sorry. I can't post that because it's not my tutorial. I honestly am not sure where it came from other than it was a blog I'd found. You may be able to find it if you do a search for dress shirt redo or something similar. I'm pretty sure it came off a blog on craftster.org

Hi John,
I'm a newbie from SE Florida, and I am an embroidery addict with a few other hobbies as well. Yesterday my wonderful husband upgraded my old Husqvarna Designer 1 to a new Designer SE Limited...so cool. Now I can go beserk with my embroidery on everything - even the dog's bandanas.
We travel to Maine a few times a year (Summertime), it is a neat place.

I can't say that I'm an embroidery addict, but I do hear that the 1st step is to admit that I have a problem! ;)

Welcome to the site. I'm sure with as much of a "problem" you have that you'll fit in just fine here. :p

I am so glad that I found your website. I love to embroider and have found several unique ideas and projects here. I am new to the message board thing, but I'll certainly be back to see what's going on with other embroidery addicts.:)
You will be fine here on the message board. You have half the problem already handled - you are an embroidery addict. LOL Anything else is a learning curve just like the embroidery was at one point. If you have any questions about how to do anything on the message board and are afraid of posting the question feel free to send me a private message and ask me. I'm a moderator here and am MORE than happy to answer any questions you have. There's a link in my signature you can click and it will automatically open up a window with a private message direct to me. ;) I will help you learn how to navigate the message board if you ask how to do something. The only dumb questions are the ones not asked.

Hasn't Jami done a great job with her site? We are all very lucky too that she's created the message board for us to talk about the new and different ways to use her designs. Glad to see you also.

:wavey: Okay Florida is not supposed to be this cold.* We used our fireplace last night (one of the three or four times a year).* So funny I had to pick up a new dinning room cabinet yesterday so I wore my full length mink (it was cold enough and I only get to wear it when we travel to cold places), we stopped to eat at a place called Capt' Hiram's on the river...the lady in the next booth was wearing shorts and t-shirt.* She ask if I was cold and I replied;)** "Not anymore!" She replied "You must be a GRITS (girls raised in the south)girl...she is right.* Today I will wear my GRITS sweatshirt, it warm and it feels like a nice warm blanket...well this weekend I'll be out by the pool again.:D Anyway, Betty will be with us this evening...fun fun:biggrin: I like this site, I look forward to reading everthing...all of you are really cool and neat people...SMILE!!:) Keneta

I saw how cold it was supposed to be in Florida right now. That's bad for the orange prices.

Stay warm Keneta! Here in IL we are forecast to see 50's by this weekend. I'm shocked that in January we will be seeing temps that high. Sadly, by my birthday a few days after it's supposed to be freezing again. :( It would have been nice for those nice warm temps to be here still then.

Another newbie here!
My name is Sunshine and I have been embroidering for about 3 years.
I have a cloth diaper business and like to embellish with adorable embroideries.

Hi Sunshine ~ Great name you have. When I was younger using the CB radio all the time my "handle" was Sunshine.

Glad you've found the message board here. Hopefully you'll stick around and come back often to play and give us some pointers and you can give all of us some ideas too.

Special Ed teacher ~ that's great. We NEED more of those in the school systems and they need to be paid much more. The patience a spec ed teacher needs to have so much patience and not everyone has that to work with those kids. I have dealt with the Spec Ed "world" quite a lot and had to go toe-to-toe with our school system because my son was in their program/classes and they (the school administration) were allowing and disallowing things as they wanted. I had to get the Fed Stats and read every page and then do battle. :) I won but it was a long, hard fight.

Anyway ~ have fun and welcome.

Hi!:wavey:
I'm new to this message board thing. I started posting in the Welcome thread ,and actually found someone who lives not far from me - Alligator.
I live in Laurens, SC. I teach in a small Christian school(Please don't proof my posts, I am a horrible typist). There are only 10 children in my class but they spread between 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. This year I do have another teacher in the room (thankfully) and she does the 3rd and 4th. Well, I also do a lot in the school office, sort of a if there is a job that needs done and noone else can do it....I've been there the longest soooooo. I'm not complaining though. The Lord is good. He made me a teacher and I love it.
I also LOVE to sew. I have been the type of person also that would rather make it than buy it. I started with a Singer XL 1000 but moved to a Babylock Ellageo2 last summer. My 16 yr old daughter now has the Singer.
I am the mother of two wonderful young teen girls, and the wife of a super hubby. You can see pics of the cabinet he made me for Christmas on the collections thread.
I look forward to more posting and meeting new friends

hi!
found this forum when trying to find out if i can replace designs lost in a crash. happened between backups. that laptop still needs to be worked on and with Christmas haven't had time or energy!

i've done all kinds art/craft things my whole life. sewing clothing, especially loved plaids and MATCHED them.. :p nooooo more! quilting, cross stitch, hand embroidery, designing/building pine primitive furniture, designing/building wooden american style folk art. hmmm, oh yeah, designing/sewing artist teddy bears (the kind of mohair and alpaca and wool felts) think i forgot a few... oh well. sold most all of that stuff.

in 2000 i got booted out of work force and get SSDI to stay home for a number of health reasons. because of one of them my fine motor skills are more like rough motor skills! it drove me crazy that i couldn't make anything when that had been my love my entire life.

my best friend had just purchased her first Pfaff and was so excited and got me excited! :elefant: someone i knew had a babylock esante2 that was virtually new. my mother-in-law bought it for me. took me a while to get going. then became obsessed. never really made *things*, t-shirts. some towels. sure loved collecting designs!

in april 2005 my husband bought me a Babylock Ellageo so i had the big embroidery field. (not that i was doing anything with the designs  )

then i really went nuts. i was so bored from staying home for 7 years and i was not allowed to drive!!!!!!!!!!! so i got up in the morning and started embroidering and embroidered till 10pm or so. finally started figuring out what to do for Christmas. was actually going to use my embroidery. collected lots more designs. i mean, why would i used the old ones? they should be special, like i was buying them for the person so it is a real "gift", right? this went on for a couple months then one day landed in the hospital for 6 weeks from septic shock. after that i couldn't do anything for ages. just getting back into the groove and last fall started collecting again. now am getting ready to sew again. first have to find the counters in there, seems my sewing room got a little overrun with *stuff* while not in use (where does stuff come from? why is it i lose a sock from each pair but stuff creeps into every empty crack from nowhere?)

(btw, from that embroidery period between learning to do the pictures.. ie. garden veggies, birds, etc, that took about 50 colors. to Christmas sleighs with all reindeer sewn in pairs, applique for the wall shelf quilts... i have a stack of embroidery that literally is 18" high)

guess by now you can tell i really am home too much. :trytofly: but am sparing you lots more because i do know where the delete key is after all these years. oh yeah, i got online in 1988 and have been an addict ever since, and that was before there was almost nothing to be addicted to. thats how bad i got'it.

happy to find a place that isn't about health and am a little overbaked on the Teardrop Trailer forum!

girlie girl things! :girl:

ps
to show you how obsessed i was, one day my husband came home.. he was always afraid to leave me alone, and i had just sewn my finger into the machine! there was no way to get it out without breaking the needle. but this had JUST happened, my husband was freaking out and i was yelling at him to hurry up and get my finger out because my blood was going to ruin the design!
well, he broke the needle and i got away and could never wash the blood out of the tomato. if it had only been over 1 inch you wouldn't have been able to see. there were so many shades in the tomato and connected greenery but had to do it all over again. it is in The Stack

no sweat. i could hardly feel it. the bad part was the circumstance of the way it was incorporated into the design. it wasn't removable. no "undo" other than breaking the needle.

if you pay attention it won't happen to you. i was focusing on something else. like slicing veggies and watching the bread rise for a while. just doesn't work!

Hey VickiT.
I have put approximately a little over 3000 designs in about 40 or more categories (I think I need to break them down even further) but this is a good start. Thanks for asking.
Good for you! I told you I was going to bug you. :)

Try not to go too deep with subfolders. My virus scanning program gives an error if it can't get that deep into the scan. I haven't been able to find out yet just how many subfolders I can actually have before it can't scan them however. It's a new program to us because we found the AVG virus program we'd been using for over 6 yrs or so was not working as well as we thought. UGH.

Once you start finding the free designs, you'll grow that stash up quite rapidly. If you start now organizing you'll be so much better off later when you know you have a design and want to use it. It can be frustrating to know you have one and then can't locate it on your computer.

Tell me about it, but now I am getting so organized I can actually got to holidays, then to Valentines day, the to hearts and find lots and lots of hearts. (Whooo hoo!!!) Before VickiT set me straight I would wonder from folder to folder, disc to disc, floopy to floopy to find that certain heart, and if all else failed, I would start flipping page after page in my 22 binders to find it, keep in mind only 1/5 of the designs are actually printed or stitched.
I'm a happy camper.(la la la de dah!!!)

StitchinGrandma

I'm so happy you are liking things more now that you've started to organize. That means you won't dred wanting to make something since it's easier to find the designs now.

Also, you may want to make a note, or even keep them in a seperate area but I keep my purchased designs seperate from my free designs. I do this mostly because while I would hate losing many of my free ones I've downloaded, I'd be sick if I were to lose those I paid for. I also do this so that I can back up all my purchased designs very quickly whenever I want to do it to assure those are never lost in a crash.

Welcome Linda. Is this your first machine? I know how excited I was when I got my machine a few years ago and then, how totally confused I was with all the information flooding my brain. Have lots of fun and ask anyone here for help. We're all more than willing to help you learn. It helps to use really well digitized designs when you do anything in this hobby, but even moreso when you are first starting out so you know if something goes wrong, more than likely it happened because of the stabilizer used, or something other than the design itself. Using Embroidables designs is very good first step since hers are among the best you can get. They stitch out wonderfully.

If you have a question, or need help on the message board, feel free to send me a PM, or Dawn (fun2sew). We are both moderators and can help you out and are more than willing to do that.

I've been sewing since I was about 9 years old starting with hand embroidery. In high school I began to make a lot of my own clothes and even made a few things for some of my friends. I always used hand-me-down machines until I was in my 30's & bought a 4 thread serger for $500. It's a good thing I wasn't driving, because I was in shock all the way home.
Since then, I've obviously gotten over it, because now I have a Brother ULT2003D and a Baby Lock Evolve. Love both of them!
My husband decided I could quit my job as a Dental Assistant 7 yrs ago:D and I started sewing for myself & others for $. I got my business license & run a verrry small  alterations & sewing/embroidery business from home.
I'm the Vancouver, WA Neighborhood Group Leader for the American Sewing Guild's Columbia River Sewing Chapter out of Portland, OR. I'm 49 y/o with 4 dogs & one stepdaughter.
I've met Jami & David at the Puyallup Sew Expo the last 2 years. Love them and their designs!
The Dolly Mamas stitch out beautifully, and I'm looking forward to sewing many more of their designs.
Thanks for the opportunity to share & say Hi!:D

I'm a Registrar in a continuation high school, I also teach a beginning sewing course in my high school, I sing in a college choir, and I sew and embroider every chance I get. I even have a little PE-150 in my classroom and teach my kids how to embroider on their sewing projects. Looking forward to chatting and getting some ideas and help!

Hi My name is Amy and I have been embroidering for about 10 years now. I have three machines and absolutely love using them all. I also found out the hard way about the free designs that are out on the internet that they can cause huge problems on projects. After learning my lesson and ruining items, I started looking only for quality designs, like the ones from Embroidables. You will have no problem using any of their designs on your items.

Also, when trying to do designs on t-shirts, etc., I always print out a layout of my design and put it on my item and line it up with my machine. This will help with designs being in the place that you want them. There is also a software out there called buzz tools that you can use to print out the layout. Hope this helps you with your designs and good luck with all your projects!
