I wonder if we could have a section for help regarding the message board. That way people could post in there looking for help with things like uploading pics, and asking how to do this or that in their user settings etc. The reason I thought of this is because my name in the "who's online" section has about 6-7 commas after it and I don't know why. I'm very familiar with this software as I am a moderator on a very large online community utlizing the same software but, I've never seen that before. Ideas?

Anyway, a seperate section for questions about how to this or that pertaining to the message board would help those not familiar with this format. Also, that way those questions wouldn't be buried in the other areas.

Are you going to "My Account" and then "Edit Profile" to enter your location? Most of the time when it won't "stick" it's because the user forgets to scroll to the very bottom and hit "Save Changes" Could that be what's happening?

I see all the comas after my name as well.
Oh good. It must be marking where you are in the list of who's online. Why, I have no idea since one would already KNOW they are online. LOL Thanks for letting me know though.

Oops. You know what. I just checked my profile and all the stuff I entered isn't there either except my birthdate. The admin must not have that activated to be allowed. I'm not quite sure.

Here is a link to the message board FAQ:

http://www.embroidables.com/forums/faq.php

It should help answer some of the questions. We will post a "How do I..." message as soon as we can get caught up and catch our breath.

Thanks. I knew that was there already but know from the other forum I moderate that it's so generic in it's answers that we found in the beginning we spent more time telling how to do things than we did other things. ;)

I'm sure you weren't expecting the forum to take off as quickly as it has and you're very busy.

The one question I have so far that I found is the location, hobbies/interests section of the profile isn't working. Was that not something we are allowed to use maybe? A few of us were discussing this already.

Ahaaaaa so where there's all the commas behind my name each time it is showing a "secret" person in the forum? That's strange it's doing that.

When a customer purchases for the first time the website automatically creates an account for them. This allows them to access their designs in the "Download Center" and it also allows them to receive store credit. Basically they have an account, but they don't have a forum name associated with their account. When they go to make their first post on the message board it will prompt them to choose a forum name, and from that point on they will no longer be known as a space in between ,,

Hope that explains it a little better.

I would love a help section, this is a little confusing, I'm used to the Yahoo boards with every message coming through in order, the threads threw me off at first and I bet there are lots of features I don't know about to make it easier.

I'll also read the FAQ section as soon as I can find it (just kidding really, that much I can do!)

Wendy you will LOVE this once you get the hang of it. I know this software fairly well so I can give a few hints.
When you want to answer someone and quote them, click the bottom right corner of the post they made and it will open the window with their post already there. All you need to do is click below that and answer them. Then it will look similar to my post here.

There is a difference though in my post. You can see I've quoted two people. To do that, it's called "multiple quote feature". To do that as you are scrolling through an area reading and you think you want to answer more than one post, then you would cllick instead of the button that says quote you would click the little one next to that on each post that has little quote marks over top. As you click each one, it will turn orange and when you have clicked all those you want to answer, then you click the "post reply" button on the bottom left. Once you do that, it will open up a fresh post for you to do and in that will be every single post quoted that you had clicked on. You go to the bottom of each one individually answering them but make sure you are typing(posting) outside the bracketed "quote". Do that underneath each one you quoted and then hit the "submit reply" and you will then see you new post where you have quoted multiple people and your answers/questions below each one. It's very cool when you get used to it.

You can also change your settings under "My Account" so that you are notified each time a thread you have posted in has received another post. Then each time you will receive an email. My default was to not be notified so I changed it to get the emails and each time a thread, such as this one, where I've posted before is posted to, I now get an email telling me.

You're welcome. You can also delete parts of someone's post that you are quoting if you only want to address a portion of that. Just be sure not to erase anything in the brackets [ ] <--- that's what will control it being in a blue box and not looking like you typed that.

BTW ~ Most message boards like this when you do quote someone the quoted portion would be at the top and your post underneath that. That way anyone reading will see what was posted and then see your comments back in order rather than to read your comment at the top and the beginning(original) post at the bottom. Make sense?

Have fun. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm glad to help.

Normally your state would appear under the date you joined the forum, and above the number of posts you've made. I've seen it on a couple ... just apparently it's not activated yet for all. It gets added to your profile toward the bottom of the page where it asks about personal info. It just won't stay even after saving. The signature line is where I've added my state for the time being.

Wendy -- if your pic is posted on a public site (photobucket, picturetrail, etc.) just copy the url for the photo. Go to the little pic of a "mountain" above where you type in messages. A box pops open in the upper left corner of your screen. Add the picture's url there and it'll appear in your message. To add a photo from your computer's hard drive, go to the Upload Images button below. HTH.

Are you trying to use a picture from your computer or one you have uploaded somewhere in a picture albumn online? Some of the online photo sites won't allow hotlinking any longer so if that's what you are trying, that could be your problem. Let me know if where the picture is and I'll help you out a bit better.

Great to know about the multiple quotes. I have been on many boards like this and never figured that one out.
You're welcome. I figured since I was helping out that I'd pass that info on. Knees will never be "ok" for me;just a question of how much pain can I tolerate until I give in. The knee probs I have is more from playing tennis on a daily basis my entire childhood and being very overweight not the leg weights machine. That machine just helped to build a very large calf muscle.

Vicki hope your knee is better. I had some terrable knee pain last year went to specialists over a 6 month time, had all kinds of tests and shots nothing helped. Then I went to my chiropractor who I had not been to in a while for a pain in my neck (I have a titanium rod in my neck which replaced 2 disks) any how I mentiond the pain in my knee she pulled out an colored chart of the body and pointed at an area and said have you had pain in this area also, and I said yes and showed her where else I had discumfort, not actually pain but numbness ect. Any how all the pain in my knee was coming from my back!
In one treatment all my knee pain went away, knock on wood has not been a problem since.

Thanks. Sadly, as mentioned above I'm stuck with knee pain for life at this point. 2 weeks before my wedding when I was unable to walk and totally freaking out I had to see an ortho surgeon. He was nice enough (not) to tell me I had no cartilidge in my right knee and only a sliver in the left. Then he was really super nice in telling an almost bride she was looking at being in a wheelchair before she's 50 at the age of about 44 at the time. Yea, thanks. LONG story but they won't do the total knee replacements on me for quite a few years. Take care of your knees. Listen to the old woman of wisdom living in pain daily. LOL

StitchinGrandma
11-10-2007, 11:52 AM
Viki, sorry to hear you can't have knee replacement yet. Will it be in your future? and why do you have to wait?
If its too personal you don't have to share. I will understand.

It's because of the blood thinners(Coumadin) and my past history with two DVT's. The ortho surgeon won't do it. The most common problem after a knee replacment is a DVT and I'm already at risk for more. That coupled with the fact that I am young enough that I can expect to need 2 or 3 knee replacements in my lifespan because they don't last that many years and being overweight shortens their already short lifespan. As long as the pain can be controlled for now, I'm good. We've only been married for five years now and I'd rather have some pain to deal with daily now that I found THE perfect husband than to be dead and leave him devastated ya know.

ewigginton

VickiT not sure if this will give you encouragement or not, but after one DVT and one PE my husband had a kidney transplant. He wasn't even 50 at the time and he's nearing his five year anniversary this winter. Never hurts to get another opinion. I know it has to do with being immobile, but I know when my good friend had her hips replaced at 48, they had her up and around immediately.

I've already had more than one opinion but thanks for the info. The thing that's great is that the rhumetologist disagreed with the ortho surgeon because he refused to give me any cortisone shots because of the coumadin also. She said she does those shots on a daily basis to her patients and many of them are also on coumadin so we're trying that now. I just had one yesterday in my 2nd knee and so far, so good. That will do miracles for me in helping me get up and around pain free. For how long, time will tell. She can only give those to me every four months but we don't know how long the affects will last so we'll see. I know the left one had its shot two weeks ago and it feels like a whole new knee for the most part. The shots will allow me to get up, get moving, AND use my recumbant bike which will help counteract the weight gain I am now getting from the new pills for my fibro I also now have been dignosed with.

Trust me, if I were a horse, they'd just shoot me and put me out of my misery. :D

My dear friend had her hip replaced 2 years ago at age 60 and she was up that same day. Very slow, but up and on her feet. Now, she is going to have the 2nd hip done in Jan and can not wait. She said that the first one feels so much better, she can not wait to be rid of the pain in the 2nd.

Funny how this thread turned into knee problems.:)

I also have knee problems, and am prolonging having surgery as long as I can.

I have had the synvisc shots 3 times, and they helped a lot. Right now I am in a drug study with my orthopedic dr. This time he only did one shot but it had 2 drugs in it. It took a month for me to feel any results, but it has helped.

My arthritis is worse and right now I'm not supposed to take anti-flammatories until the drug study is over, but I'm doing ok.

The elevator is out at school right now and if it's not fixed this week, I may have to take off a day or 2. I teach upstairs.:(
