I guess this is sort of embroidery...but not machine embroidery. I made this for dd. Well, I can't seem to figure out how to load 2 pictures. So here is the pic of the smocking only.

Great job. I used to do some smocking when my boys were very young. For some odd reason they won't wear anything smocked now that they're 17 and 19!

Oh how I wish I could do that! I admire anyone with that skill. Your dress is beautiful!

That is beautiful! The only smocked thing I ever had for my boys was the baptismal outfit....and I bought it.
I can not imagine the patience and time a garment like that would take.
What do you think? How long does it take you?
This is quite impressive. I have never smocked as it looks too complicated, but I sure enjoy looking at it and admiring the works of others. You did a great job.

Wow that looks great! It looks like you put a lot of hard work into it. I've always wanted to try smocking but it scares me:confused:
I love the look of it although my boys are a bit old for anything smocked.

Beautiful!!! That is a keepsake. I never smocked, I always bought the dresses smocked and embroidered. Another great idea. Thank you for sharing.

Right outside Columbia. Wish I was in CO!!!! Not a native but been here a long time. Grew up mostly in WA and really miss the mountains!!!! Born in Brookings, SD, have wonderful family there in Yankton. Lived other places. PA, OH, AZ, couple others for a few months which doesn't count.
*sigh*
SW MO has the beautiful Ozarks. Sure would love to go to the CHristmas time lights at Silver Dollar City. One of my big desires that will doubtfully ever be fulfilled.
You must miss home if you have famliy there. We never had family where we lived. They have always been better than Christmas to me. Now we live only a day's drive away so can go see them.
I'll touch the soil for you! :adore:

Ok ladies-I'm surprised more of you don't smock since you all are so good at sewing & embroidery. If I can do it, anyone can. I say that, but I'm only working on my 2nd dress. A girl at work smocks & heirloom sews by hand & offered to teach me on breaks & lunches. We started back in the fall & I made my 2 yr old DD a smocked bishop for Christmas. I haven't learned how to do the stacking design like this precious one is. I'm trying to tackle the geometric. **If you can cross-stitch, you can smock.**
I have too many projects going...need to finish.
