Sew So Happy
01-13-2008, 06:35 PM
Or whatever you call it. How did you come up with your name you use on the boards?
Mine came to me whenever I was thinking of what I wanted my business to be named when I had one. My husband asked and I just sat there like a bump on a log. And there came along that wonderful word SEW and happy is how I feel about embroidering and sewing!
SEWSOHAPPY!:D
Alligator
01-13-2008, 06:38 PM
I have used Alligator for several groups I have been in. My name is Allison and my Aunt Susie always called me Alli or Alligator
artsiegirl
01-13-2008, 06:41 PM
I teach art so the artsie part was easy if not very creative, and the girl part...well I'm nearing 40 in a hurry and yet I still feel like a girly girl sometimes.
just_teachin
01-13-2008, 07:07 PM
I'm just_teachin on most of the boards I'm on. I had signed up as just_teachin' but I didn't realize that they didn't allow the apostrophe, but I just rolled with it.
Sew 'N Sane
01-13-2008, 07:51 PM
I came up with my Sew 'N Sane a long time ago. I actually was saying that I'm Sewn Sane - because sewing seems to restore my sanity, but after having 4 kids, I really became Sew Insane!

windwillow
01-14-2008, 04:16 AM
We came up with mine years ago when we were trying to come up with a name for my business. I love trees especially the willows and I love the wind, it was a natural for me. Now everyone knows me by that name, it is my email, my signature, my personal identity.
Windwillow (Keneta) on other sites I am also known as Atenek (my name spelled backwards) but that is the formal, mainely everyone calls me windy or such.:2in1:
Sixinthenest
01-14-2008, 05:07 AM
I am Fiveinthenest on early boards. But, when my youngest son was born in September of 2004, I switched to Sixinthenest. Our oldest child is 14, so it will still be a few years before they start leaving the nest.

craftmama
01-14-2008, 09:25 AM
I've used Craftmama in other boards because I get involved in some type of Craft and no matter how old your kids are.......they still need mama. I guess it is based on my favorite loves. Crafts and being a mom
idesign
01-14-2008, 05:18 PM
I used to own a store named "Innovative Design", but when we moved, I did not start it up again. I shortened it to Idesign, then yahoo assigned me the number 85 to my email, and now I'm "idesign85". Believe me, I am NOT 85! LOL!
Sewfaithfully
01-14-2008, 05:18 PM
I needed a name for my business. I started out A Time to Sew but when I went to get a domain name for a website, that was taken in .com and .net and .something else.... so I didn't want something so many other people had. Many years ago one of my secret sisters at church gave me a little statue of a sewing angel with the saying "He is sew faithful". I thought that that was so cute. Therefore "sewfaithfully" was born.

I bet you can't guess what i do!!;) I knew that i wanted to do dental hygiene since HS..however, i guess i was sooooo naive that i thought everyone had nice teeth like myself...What a extremely rude awakening in hyg. school!! It's always nice to hear someone say "nobody has ever told me that before" when i discuss some of their needs/problems..
cruisin
01-15-2008, 08:04 AM
I always had a hard time coming up with these names. I am fairly new to the forum type of sites. A few sites I needed log ons but usually no one saw them. Then I joined a book club...and the pressure of coming up with a name was very hard.
On it I am VOICE....it's just what came to my mind. I probably saw it in a title of a book or something and then tied it into that I USED to work for a software company and I was the voice for the voice response system. It was one of those press one for this press 2 for that voices. It was early on in voice response systems...before they were so terribly annoying. I ended up with that job the voice job...by chance. A client was going to use their own voice...chosen from their staff. The company was in NJ and all the voices they tried were coming across with too much of a regional accent. So they called me...I was office manager receptionist etc etc. The client liked my 'phone voice' and walla.....it was my job. VOICE.
Then I thought that was dumb...and on the next swap (cd swap and dvd swap) I joined...I came up with cruisin. It kind of ties into surfing the web...but actually popped into my head because there was a song on the radio about cruisin. It was from a movie...don't remember which but an actress sings the song....maybe Gwynett Paltro...not sure.
But...if you are looking for me in yahoo...that is where my best name is. It is Contrary12U.....as in Mary Mary quite contrary.

This is the little statue, that I got the idea for my boardname.

Is that a Jim Shore of Heartwood Creeks piece...it is adorabe. I love the pieces, so calm and warm. Happy for your piece, I have the cat "Abigail" she is my fat quilting cat and she always bring a smile, I would collect them but I haven't anymore space.
Sewfaithfully

Windwillow - no, it's not a Jim Shore piece. Actually I think probably Dollar Store or Walmart :embarassed: ...from at least 10 yrs. ago. I love it though.
carmelite
01-16-2008, 08:15 PM
hi!
my name is "carmelite" because i am a member of the Discalced Carmelite religious order. we the seculars, are the 3rd part of the order which consists of friars (priests) cloistered nuns, and us guys. couldn't think of anything this morning, then decided it was what defined me best!
(oh, this means WORKING on being as good as possible, not BEING there.. i'm in major training on that!)
playing pretty
01-18-2008, 09:25 AM
My sister helped me think of the name "play pretty" for my business a couple of years ago. It was a phrase my dad used to say when my two sisters and I would start fussing with each other. When he said "play pretty", it would make us stop and think "What does that mean?" But of course we got it and went back to being angels!

I just used part of my real name. I'm not that creative with words and this is easy to remember.

I always hated trying to come up with names. For awhile I've had some that were potentially going to be business names but then I'd change my mind about it or get bored with it.
The name I have now is a mix between my first and middle name and maybe it will stick.
NJ are my initials and Missouri is where I want to be. I now live in Colorado, but I can't wait until life circumsances allow me to move back home and be closer to my son, dil, and sisters.

This is just perfect...I found my windwillow tree sculpture. At first Phil wasn't to sure about it, now he says it's me, blowing in the wind (I know it is a private underlaying joke the way he says it (sorta like airhead):hmmmm: . If you can't see it to well on the avatar here it is a little bigger. It is a willow tree blowing in the wind.

Deedles
03-02-2008, 05:04 PM
I've been called Dee all my life, very people can pronounce my name, and that's what I go by on all the diving boards but for some reason the sewing forum all demand more letters. I'm not very creative and I was trying to come up with something sewing related when I thought of what one of my diving cyber friends always calls me. Deedles at least rhymed with needles so that worked for me.
happygirl9088
03-03-2008, 12:52 PM
I became "happygirl" when I got divorced (prior to that I think I must have been "sadgirl"...lol) I use this board name alot, also part of an email address. When I came up with the email address, apparently there are alot of "happygirls" out there in cyber world, so I needed some numbers. Who can remember random numbers? Not me, for sure....so part of my address. I always seem to remember where I live! :)
it is my intials...i know not so creative, but it helps me remember it when i join other boards to keep them the same:)

I decided to keep it simple since I am old and forgetful.:D I am Mags on other forums I am a part of.

When we first got internet (1994), I was SewSweet. I loved that name! At some point, I got mad and signed off of the account. When I wanted to go back, they would not let me have my old screen name back, so I had to come up with something. I do a lot of things, but sewing has always been one of those things, so "Karen sews, too" became KarenSews2.

Five seems to be a constant for me in my life. I am the mom of 5 kids, I am the 5th of 6 kids, my birthday and wedding anniversary are both in May! I am an Aerosmith fan, and Mamakin is one of my favorite songs.

The Hen
06-03-2008, 09:58 AM
In addition to teaching, I own a small gift shop, named Three Chicks and a Hen. The shop was named for my three daughters and myself. People that come to the shop often ask if I am "The Hen" that is how I got my name. I just loved reading how others got their names, so interesting. It gives you a little insight into everyone's personality.
lattelady
06-04-2008, 05:55 AM
I use lattelady or latteladymom on most the forums I belong to. I start each morning with two skim lattes that I make at home. As I like to say "an espresso machine will pay for itself in reduced trips to Starbucks"!
If I didn't go the latte direction, I'd probably try for something like gadgetgirl, because I love gadgets -- like my embroidery machine!
StitchinGrandma

YUM! Lattes are yummy and here I have an expensive espresso machine in my kitchen that hasn't been used in probably 1 1/2 yrs. How dumb is THAT?
for my kids
06-16-2008, 06:21 PM
I came up with for my kids [/B][/I]because what I do is mostly for them...I sew and embroidery mostly for them and i'm a late in life mom...I have a 10 yr old, a 3 yr old and a 16 month old....I'm 45...I feel blessed that I got to have the children I always wanted the second time around...same for my hubby...he is 49 and has 1 child that is 28...we are having babies when most of our friends are becomeing grandparents..LOL...life is goos though!

Lottie was my grandmothers name, and she loved to sew. I wish she could
have had a sewing machine like mine. She made most of my school clothes on a straight stitch Kenmore.
She sewed for me, my sister and some of my cousins. Way back then we had to wear dresses to school
(I just told my age!). My Grandma Lottie was the BEST.
When I was little I knew someone loved me because I had Grandma Lottie.

Lottie Jo how sweet! I too have very fond memories of my grandmother..she is the one that actually took the time to sit down with me and teach me haoe to sew at a very early age...I was maybe 8 or so and she let me sew doll clothes by hand..then I graduated to the machine....my mom and all my aunts all sewd...my grandmother sewed for the public to earn extra money for herself and her hobbies...I get a lot of creative energy from her I think...she passed away a few months after my daughter was born she just adored her because she was so very tiney..she weighed only 4lbs. 10 ozs when she was born and is still very petite...I miss her dearly but cherish the memories.....
Well mine is REALLY original LOL.
It came from my parents, one day they just started calling me Emma (around about the 29th of January 1987!) and it stuck! haha
I think of crabtree and evelyn... but to put it shorter will be crabtree... to be even shorter will be crab. crab crab.... remember not crap :p

Well I guess I need to update my comment here since I changed my username to what it is now from my real name. :D I'm incognito now & hiding out now like a criminal. HA!
I changed it for a personal reason but it was a name chosen because I became a first time grandma last August to the cutest little granddaughter with THE most expressive eyes I've ever seen on a baby. (seriously that's not just the grandma in me talking as others have said that when seeing her picture) But every grandma thinks her grandkids are the most beautiful in the entire world. We're all alike. But, I was a stitchin fool before she was born and made her tons of blankets, burp cloths, bibs, onesies and everything I could think of so that's where I chose my name from.

I'm glad to know your real name though because yours was one I had to stop typing. Yea, it is easier to type crap sometimes and I didn't want to miss that typo and call you by that name in error. HA! Of course, I'm SO bad at names that I'll forget Evelyn anyway, or maybe that's not even your name either the way you explained the name you came up with. Is it really Evelyn? :p

Of course you can see that I also am not very creative. I am a grandmother of 7 - 6 girls and 1 boy. My birthday is 3-13. I used to use Lady as my name on other things; (This is what my hubby used to call me when we were dating) But it didn's have enough letters for some places so had to change everything to something that I could use on everything. I can't seem to remember my sign-in names if they are different. :hmmmm2:

I think it is very creative, and cute. My father used to be a State Patrol for Ga. and that is what truckers used to call them on the road was Smokey!
telyfleming
07-30-2008, 07:32 PM
Well..I'm not a teletubbies fan..that's for sure. Tely is a combo of my first and middle name (Terri Lynn)..and Fleming is my last name. Sort of boring, but it's easy to remember and that is always helpful to someone who forgets everything! :)

What an interesting thread! I got my login years ago, when I was having a bad day with the kids. They had just gone to bed, and I went online. When I was asked for a name, I just said mom's done!. That seemed to work on every board I went to. Now, my older son just went to college, and my younger son is 16, and "needs his space". Do you think I'll ever really be done???? I doubt it!

How funny. And NOPE! You have very good job security in being a Mom. Mine are all out of the house but we have two that could end up back here again very soon. Time will tell. But, they always come back to Mom when they need help or advice........sometimes anyway. Some are stubborn and will wait until they fall flat on their faces before asking for that help, trust me.
Not only are you never done, sometimes you get more kids when you least expect it. My son recently married. He was suffering from the flu last night and his new wife was calling and texting me from 3 - 4 in the morning. Well, now she has the same thing and guess who is calling again. Can't say I mind though... but sure wish this bug would have hit them during hours I was awake.

My name is Dana, and my husband's name is Jim Bob (yes, you read that correctly, and no he isn't a redneck or a cowboy--he is a city slicker.) We live in Haslet, Texas. A very small suburban/rural town just northwest of Fort Worth.
I was a children's minister when we married almost 11 years ago--on the 20th of this month to be exact, and all of "my kids" began to call me Dana Bob. They even called our children "little baby bobs". That evolved to danamom and I do have 4 precious little bobs--ages 3-9.
Keep sewing and posting everyone--I love your ideas. They are too too cute
Blessings
Dana
