You might want to look in the help section of the message board or contact Jami.
Would love to see more people from MI.

Hey fun2sew! I'm from Holland-Grand Rapids area too! :) But you already know that. :) For those of you that have never been out this way, come in May, during our Tulip Festival. It's fun! You'll see Dutch Dancing, parades and can eat all that fattening carnival food!

Seeing all the tulips in bloom all over the city is breathtaking too. Hopefully this next year they will have good weather so they are awesome.

Wow. Next time hubby and I come to the Holland area we all need to get together and meet. We live in IL but hubby was born in Holland and lived there his entire life until he met me. :D I always say I imported my husband from Holland. HA

It's a really nice "smallish" city. I love the west vs. the east side of the state (believe me when I say I've lived all over, I grew up more in the middle of the state) but I miss the shopping, the restaurants, etc. There are tons of "chinese" restaurants here and not one of them is good. NOT ONE!
Anyway, we should have a "meet" sometime. That would be fun.

You need to go to BD's in GR. ;) Wait ~ there's one in Holland that's not too bad. It's on the main highway if I recall. I'll have to ask hubby. It's off Hwy 31 near the Sav A Lot store and the theatre. I can't remember the name though. It's a huge buffet. We've been there quite a few times but the last trip there it wasn't AS good as the others. I'm hoping it was just an off day because all other times it was good.
I know we're going to be heading that way in the next two months because we just got a call today and hubby's Mom and StepDad are now back from FL for the summer. :D
Got it! The place is called Grand King Buffet 661 E 24th Street. ;) There ya go. Now go try that one.
Here's their website (http://www.grandkingbuffet.com/restaurantweb/499/003/jin_e/)and they were voted #1 Best Chinese Rest. in Western MI 2007 by the Sentinal readers.

Been there. I liked it OK during lunch but I went once for Dinner and it was not good. I think it's better at lunch because of the quick turnover for the work crowd. I'm half Japanese... so not Chinese to really compare but I am pretty picky with Asian food.
What else is missing in Holland chains like: Souper Salad, McAllister's Deli, Ya-Ya's, CiCi's..... I mean these are all pretty generic chains that I think would do well here. The Ponderosa closed and guess who bought it.... someone to make another Chinese buffet. Anyway, I guess I'll stop crying about places to eat when I shouldn't be eating much anyway. I am trying to diet.

Hi there ~ I'm another one in Holland. I've been trying to find a new Dutch costume to fit just in time for the Tulip Time festival...that starts in about a week. I'll be walking in the parade with my son, so I have to be in traditional costume! My old one doesn't fit and I need a smaller one. :rolleyes2: Hey, at least I don't need a Bigger one!

We've always gone on the weekends so that might be the secret to going there to get a good meal. ;) I know where we live there are a few that we will not go to unless it is right at a dinner time or on the weekend.

Oooh I've heard there's a woman named Dawn that could make one for you. You should try to locate her and see if she can make one. http://www.terpstra.us/images/vickiljt/Gifs/lol2.gif

YUM! Elephant ears? Ooooooooh yummy. I've always wanted to go to Tulip Time. :( I doubt I ever will because being married to someone that was born and raised there and put into Dutch costumes when he was little and forced to walk the parades he's not thrilled at the thought of going back! He finally escaped the traffic and people that flood the city every year for that festival by moving here and really does not have any want at all to go back there for that mess of people and traffice. LOL He did say he would go if I really wanted to but I haven't done that to him yet.

I think that's exactly what Shannon said about her husband and his avoidance of Tulip Time (though he didn't escape). Shannon keeps trying to talk me into dressing up and I just think an Asian (OK, only half) dressed up in a Dutch costume would be pretty funny.

HA! Little Asian Dutch Girl. Yea, that's a bit confusing for sure. But I'm sure you'd be just too cute anyway. DO IT!
I know that if I really wanted to go that he would take me in a second. Oooooooh I just realized something too..... hehe we've been talking about heading over there on Saturday, May 9th and I bet he has NO idea it's Tulip Time now. HA! Everything we want to order for his mother won't deliver to her since she lives WAY out in the boonies over there. They moved from in town Holland to way out by some lake in Allegan. :( We're having a terrible time finding something to be delivered to her for Mother's Day. UGH
