View Full Version : Thrift Stores
It is amazing what you can find in these stores. Instead of spending a fortune for lace I bought a wedding gown for $5 and took the lace off of it. Also the fabric was in great shape so I can now use it to make other things.

I like to get "vintage" denim at Thrift stores. Can't beat the prices. Terry:)

Thrift stores are the best. With the cost of fabric, I can find some great cottons (shirts, dresses, pants etc.) that I use for quilts, etc. that are great to embroider on. Also the wool sweaters to make purses too. The money I save helps me buy the great designs here!!!

I like to find the wooden boxes and the really un-norm stuff, the wedding gown-great idea!! I find sets of dishes for my kids homes, they all enjoy a good day at the thrift stores.

I am a thrift addict and am fortunate to live near some in walking distance. I hardly ever buy retail anymore,..in fact it hurts to do so! I've done especially well with curtains and fabrics for window treatments.
It's also a feel good to remember we are also recycling,...points for the environment!

Thrift store addict here as well... I haven't seen any wedding dresses for as little as 5 bucks tho. I've got my eye out for one that's beaded cause I want a stash of white beads but they are all $20 or more. If I was in walking distance I'd really be in trouble. I haven't bought any retail clothing in I bet, 2years. I have 3 pairs of jeans that fit and all the rest are waiting to be recycled by me into something else. my closet is still full of stuff that needs to be reconstructed. Little by little I'm making dents in it...
I've never tried the wool felting Becca... Here in Phoenix/Mesa area of AZ it's much harder to find wool items in thrift stores. I keep an eye out tho...

I have only tried the Thrift stores twice now. I have heard so many stories of great bargains. I have not had that much luck. Couldn't find a single wool sweater, fabrics etc. So far not a thing.
By what I have read it is a hit and miss shopping spree.

What a thrifty idea! I never thought of buying clothes from stores like these and using them for the fabric. You guys are very resourceful...and now...thanks to you, so am I!! Thanks!

Well go for it Connie and Carlene! It's fun because you can visit them frequently since they have a fairly big turn around of stuff. The best things go right away so sometimes you get those just by chance cause no one else has seen it yet. But still it takes a little getting used to and finding favorite places.
Keep us posted on how you like it.

I've only tried the thrift stores a few times and also with not luck. Maybe I should give it a few more tries.
