Has anyone found red/green kitchen towels like the ones shown on the inspirations page?? They are so cute - I would love to order some and do my own designs on them.

I've gotten some really good quality ones at my Target. I waited until their after Christmas sale and bought about 50 of them in various colors...3 for $2. My quilt shop also sells good ones too, but for $3/each.

We need to start a list of places we know that have really good after Christmas sales on the things we like to buy, like towels.
I know that I am now going to be checking out Target for towels in the after Christmas sales.

I agree about the Target return policy... I got, as a gift, a car seat for my little guy... well, I already had one, so did not need it. When I tried to return it, they would only let me get another carseat. I had the receipt and all and they said it had to be the same department and same "type" of item.
I suppose for towels to be embroidered, I would not be returning them anyway, but their policy is bad.

Kohls and Target are my favorite stores for this type of thing!
Look in the clearance section too! Get ahead start for next year!

Thanks, I had not thought about getting the fabric on a bolt.

What do you all think is the best size for ones that you make from bolt fabric. I like them to be larger, but not sure what size is "right".

Keep an eye on JCPenney...Their clearance towels are usually a great buy. Also TJMaxx.

Target puts their waffle weave kitchen towels on the $1 rack!! Look now they have ones with christmas stuff on them that you could add names to (for those of us on a short time leash!). They put plain ones out too. After Christmas they will put them on the end of the ailes and they are soooo cheap!

I picked up some good towels at Target. Sears clearance sometimes has good buys also.

Thats weird about Target,I"ve returned things with a reciept and got my money back, maybe some stores are different,if they did that to me I would never go back again, and not only that thats why you get a gift reciept,if something is not right you can return it.

I too think it's weird that your Target won't allow full refunds. Ours does here in Michigan. I love that store. I woudn't go back to a store that puts that kind of rules on returns either. My suggestion is to FIRST shop at the clearance areas first before looking else where, in any store. The bargain you'll find! I've bought items from clearance sections just for the fabric or what it had on them.

I find Kmart's return policy horrible. I had the same problems with Kmart some of you had with Target. I have returned things to Target about 5 months ago, they tried to give me a hard time since I had payed with my check card, said it had not gone thru, which it had , I had been 2 weeks. Target said they had to return with a credit card, that's fine with me, and I gave them my check card. The lady at the service desk had no idea it would work. Now, how crazy is that? Of coarse it would work, that's what I used! Crazy!!!
Thanks on the towels at Target and Kohls, I've got to get some towels for a wedding present and mono them.

I didn't even realize that Target had the kind of towels that embroider well. I'll have to look around more, if I can stand to go into a store now that the Holiday rush is on. Towels are a great gift, too, because you don't need to know a size, or taste in clothes.

I have always loved embroidering on towels and giving them as gifts. By adding the embroidery, you take an everyday household item and make it something special. Who wouldn't love something like that.
Years ago, Wal-Mart used to sell packages of fingertip towels in red, green, white and ivory. I bought so many, that I haven't had to purchase any in a while, so I don't know if they still have them or not, but I seem to recall them being very reasonably priced.
If anyone is looking for nice linen towels, you can find them at embroiderthis.com. Plus, they have free embroidery designs!

I just read on another board that Hancocks is now selling huck toweling by the yard. Don't know if they would have colors, but it might be something to check.

We got some GORGEOUS dish towels at Crate and Barrel at an outlet several years ago. We use them heavily every Christmas season and they've held up beautifully. They certainly weren't $1 each, but the quality was top notch!
(And FTR, I embroider on lots of Target cheap stuff, too! ;) )

You could also try Sam's Club for towels. I went over the other day and found white waffle weave dishtowels. It was an 8 pk and they feel kind of like the microfiber towels. I love them. Those were only $9.74 for a pack. I also bought some 100% cotton dishtowels and those were in an 8pk also for $14.64.

It doesn't help much for this holiday but will for next year. Last year right after the holidays I went to Target where they moved all the stuff from the holidays to sell on clearance. I bought gorgeous linen napkins, red and green towels and alot of other things that would be great for embroidering on at dirt cheap prices. I think the linen napkins I only paid about $1-$2 for an entire set of them and they are really nice ones.

I found some Christmas towels at a Ross store, but they do draw up. They'll do in a pinch.
I don't know if any of you have a Big Lots store nearby, but they usually carry some really good bundles of large size dish towels. I've washed them and they do not draw up at all. Usually in the bundle there is 2 solid color and 2 stripes.

Never thought to check at Big Lots- there's one about 25 minutes west of where we live- near the Target, actually! Might have to stop there and scope it out some time!

Have you checked out the web site www.allaboutblanks.com They have great items. I believe several of the pieces from the inspiration pages come from that site.
Best of luck

do you use anything special to help kitchen towels hold up to the hard work in the kitchen.....or are they like guest towels...just too look at and lightly use?

I have 2 dish towels that my SIL made for me a few years ago. I don't think she did anything to 'preserve' them. I used them as often (or probably more often) as any other towel....and sadly I had to retire it along with so many of my other towels the last time I cleaned out my towel bin.
