View Full Version : Baby Hats

I made the cutest baby hat using the Candy Cane font! I used the McCall's pattern that ties on the top. Put the name on the cuff using the Candy Cane font for the first letter only. I'm in the process of trying this hat on several different sized children as I believe you can use the same hat and just extend the length due to the knit. I will try to make one in fleece to and see how that does. It's very easy and quick.

And I believe you can just use the paperclip (attach) icon on the toolbar right above the text box to insert a picture. I'll let you know if I find out differently. After all, what do I know? :)

What is the hat made of? I made a fleece hat for my son last year and will probably be doing so again this year. (He outgrew the last one) He LOVED it. It was so soft and snugglily. Can't wait to see photos.

I made the hats out of a knit. OK...it appears I won't be getting the hat back (they loved it) so I just bought more fabric and will whip another one up and show you the pics. Trust me...you're gonna love it. So get the pattern, fabric and of course the Candy Cane font and get on it! I'll try and have it up this weekend!

Adorable pattern but no babies to sew for. :(

I'm in the same boat, but I know that there are hospitals & shelters that love to get donations of baby hats in the colder states...not much chance we'll need them in FL:)

Thanks for the March of Dimes link. I had never seen that. I think I would like to get involved.
It really is a great cause. And when those families have those tiny babies any little item hand made makes the the family feel so nice to see their child in clothing or even just a blanket. I have heard this from some families themselves. It is heart touching to know you made a difference in someon's life, at a time when they really need cumfort !
Hope everyone here can take a moment and check it out. Preemie outfits can me made with such a tiny piece of cloth (one fat quarter or less) you can use scraps and make an entire outfit !! Check out the patterns ready to download for FREE !

Well, I finished two hats but I have never uploaded before. When I try to it tells me my pic is too large. I have tried to change the size in Adobe but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?
Thanks~

Hi Debi,

I think the suspense is killing us all. No pressure or anything!:) Here's a link to a post about uploading pictures. If you can't get it to work, just email it to me and I'll be happy to post it for you.

Finally! I hope this pic turns out alright. Sorry Jamie for the suspense...hope it's worth it. Actually, they really are cuter in person. Sorry I didn't have a baby to model! When I just previewed it, the brim is really not as large as it looks.

No Worrys Debi, they are adorable!!! Now I know what to do with all of my fleece scraps too. I love that they are Holiday Hats, another great way to use the candy cane alphabet....maybe I need to add it to my list too - sew many decisions!

We could probably get away with cotton in FL, although it was in the mid 40's last night, it will be warming to the 70's today. I'll make a set of these for my twin 2nd cousins who just turned one a few weeks ago in San Francisco...they love hats and will look so cute. I'll ask their Mom to be sure and send pictures so we get the live models and post to the group. One more thing to add to the never ending list:D

Wendy~ I'm making these for my twin niece and nephew. I thought instead of their names I would put on "Naughty" and "Nice" and their Mom can switch according to day. :D I do hope she is not offended but thought it might be cute. What do you think?

I love it, and hope you don't mind if I steal the idea, I know my cousin will love it, and the twins do alternate personalities & bahavior. We have a boy & girl too!

I just sent them T's with Darby Did It in pink thread for her to wear and Sydney Did It in blue thread for him to wear...already at such a young age they know to blame the other.

Our local children's hospital has something like that for the moms of NICU babies to sleep with before placing them on the babies. That way the babies never lose touch of mom when she is around. My little guy had one. The personalization would be a nice touch.
