I would say a window screen made into a tote is very original.

The best thing is that the sand from the beach doesn't stay in the bag. The girls in my son's girlfriends sorority all had to have one with tri-delta on it...I'm seeing them this summer with a Dolly design for my friends - I kinda forgot about having made that!!!

It sounds perfect. Too bad the only sand around here comes from the kids' sandbox, lol.

Sounds like you have small kids still, no wonder mom is giving you alchohol - mine are grown and out on their own.

If sand isn't a problem where you live, maybe it would keep the melted snow out:)

Ah yes. I have a daughter turning 9 next week, a 4 year old daughter and a son that just turned 2 last week :) And since I homeschool, I think my mom must feel for me, lol.

And we live in TN, so we dont get snow very often either, lol. My hubby hates that it gets cold here without snow. He says it is a total waste.

Oh Boy, I feel for you...home schooling, raising three kids and you still have time for your hobbies, do you have a big "S" embroidered on your chest??? you deserve one:)

We've has a cold snap here in FL this week, a nice change from the intense humidy & heat, but still no chance of snow here either. My husbands brother's family lives in Smyrna & Clarksville, we were there 2 years ago and had a great time going to the antibellum homes.

Brrr! I'm freezing and it's only in the high 40's outside, I'd die in the snow. We went to Beech Mtn, NC in Feb and I couldn't get warm...I guess I needed to embroider fleece scarves, hats and mittens!

I normally just embellish clothing for them. I use to spend all my free time making bows to match all the Gymboree clothing lines (sold those) but I go so burned out. I do have some throws for them that I need to do for Christmas as well as a couple of polka dot duffle bags that I plan on putting their names on.

It is actually warm here today. Odd for November. The kids were in short sleeves earlier. I loved it. Fall is by far my favorite season.

I hadn't thought of duffle bags, good idea for either sex, and a great thing to have for overnighters. I liked the hooded towels someone else posted too, I can get away with those for bath or pool towels so all seasons.

I am gonna have to try the hooded towels, too. I think the kids would love them.

The duffle bags were something I found on a yahoo group where somebody was selling off her wholesale supplies and I just couldnt pass them up. My girls love having bags and purses to put all their goodies in.

Oh, and another thing I really need to do is make a thing with a lot of pockets to put over my daughter's bed to put her stuffed animals in. I am thinking some kind of canvas material with lots of pouches embroidered with her beloved cats. She has way too many stuff animals in her bed. This way, they could still be close to her but maybe I would actually be able to find her in that mess of hers, lol.

I wonder if you could get the handing shoe bags and embroider on it???

My boys always had tons of stuffed animals too. I got a length of lamp chain at Home Depot that went from the ceiling to about a ft off the floor & used a swag hook to attach it to the ceiling, then used "s" hooks on the links, closed one end on the links to keep it in place and hung all of the animals off the hooks using their tags which were usually looped.

They kept their favorites on the bed and could trade them out as needed. I loved that they were available for them but "put away".

Like a shoe bag was what I was thinking but also thought I should make the pouches a bit bigger and I want it wider and shorter than the shoe holders. We converted an attatched garage into a room for the girls, so the ceiling is pretty high. My eldest has a loft bed, so the room above the bed would be perfect for something like this. We did do a hanging thing a few years ago, but now it is full of hats, lol. Personally, I would rather toss all those stuff animals, but since she loves them sooo much....

I wish I had saved a few of their animals, they had the original care bears - who knew they'd make a comeback.

I've been saving a fur coat and plan to make a bear for each of my boys from it when they have their first child...if I can still see and sit at my machine since they don't sem to be in any hurry to get married let alone have kids.

Awww, what a sweet idea. Those kinds of things are just so special!!

My girls have carebears and the My Little Ponies. I find it so funny that those things came back. I didnt have either (I was a tad too old for that phase) but I remember my neices playing with both.

Starsite;
Bears from old coats are great. I have done a lot of that for myself nad customers. You should take the coat apart and get a pattern ready and start making them now. My first one was from an old fake fur coat of my moms that she had not worn in year (she could never afford real fur). A friend of mine asked what I could do with her old coat she too had all boys. So we made one for each Son - family. they were placed in doll display cases.

Thanks for the advice, you're right, I should start before I need them otherwise they'll get added to the list of projects I wish I had time for:)
Cutting out the pattern would still allow me to be committed but I could still save the area I want to embroider on, picturing maybe a suede tummy in a complimentary color...definately want these as heirlooms and showcased.

Did you make your jointed???

I missed this post! I remember seeing this everywhere on the web when I started embroidering but never got around to it. I'll have to dig up the old tutorials I saved, I remember that like any paper embroidery the design can't be too dense....anyone remember the stitch count guideline...would a Dolly Mama qualify:)

TP and a leather coat that I was VERY SCARED to do.

Tell us more about the leather coat, what stabilizer, density of design, needle etc. I think because of the replacement cost it has been a real scary thought for me.

This also just gave me another idea though, I could use an old leather coat to make teddy bears for my sons and the fur for dil's or grand daughters.

Well, lots of things... mostly seasonal things and I did some cute things for my good friend who is in the Red Hat thing, using Red hat designs. It is really simple to do. I just used an iron on interfacing on the back side of the paper then hooped it really loose. Use a design that is not too dense and stitch slowly. They turn out really well, and if they mess up, just rip off that sheet and start over.

Oh, I forgot to say that the purpose was just to be decorative and unusual. Most people do not believe that you actually have TP with stitching on it, so it is an attention getter. Plus it decorates up your spare roll basket or however you store it, for whatever holiday or season.

I would also love to try to embroidery an umbrella, how would you pin it down to your hoop, would it not tear the nylon? Anybody tried it?

Another major problem that I could forsee in embroidering an umbrella is that it would no longer be waterproof. By embroidering you would open little holes that would allow water to come thru on you. I guess it would be OK for a decorative umbrella but I wouldn't do it on one that would be used. Same thing goes for raincoats and slickers.
