I love this colorful butterfly, and I'm having to limit myself as to how many times I can use it on things. I think I can squeeze in a burp cloth, bib, and taggie to go along with this dress and diaper cover! Jami's designs just stitch so beautifully that they do become addictive!:p

I like! I love the color combo. How do you tie such perfect bows? I have tried and have not succeeded yet. Do you have to hand sew them on?

I fight with the bows as entertainment!:p I actually just twist the ribbon each time I pass it through a loop so that the polka dots always show on the front. I do sew them on by hand. I'm sure it could be done with a machine, but I don't want the stitching to show on top of the ribbon if I tie it and then machine stitch it and I don't think I could tie it correctly if I stitched the ribbon onto the dress first.

I LOVE this dress!!! This is the A-line dress that I sew for my JuJu. The pattern I use is the Childrens Corner "Lucy".
Artsiegirl-I love the butterfly, too. Where can I find it?

WOW! That's just adorable! I missed this post while trying to catch up after being off more than on the past few weeks being sick. I love that dress!
Did I miss it? What pattern did you use to make it or have you created your own? I know it looks pretty basic, but I'm not that creative in sewing yet.

Thanks Vicki. I can't put my hands on that pattern right now, but it was a very basic A-line dress pattern from one of the major pattern companies in department stores (Butterick maybe?) Instead of making the facings for the neck and armholes, I cut two front & two backs: one for the dress and one for the lining. To me, it's easier and looks better than facings.

That makes sense, plus then you could make it reversible too if you can (or maybe you did) figure out the top of the dress if there are buttons there under those bows.
If you do run across that pattern, please let us know what one it was if you remember. Thanks.
This is absolutely adorable. I just love all of your stuff!!! Please keep the pictures coming, it makes me want to expand my sewing abilities (which are very limited!!!) Thanks for sharing.

Vicki, I finally found the pattern after you shamed me into organizing my sewing & embroidery stuff. It's New Look #6576, and it comes with several applique designs in the pattern. Of course, why would we manually applique when we can have our machines do it for us, so I just left those in the pattern jacket!

Oh you poor thing. LOL Being shamed into organizing your sewing area. roflmao Thank you for the pattern number. I looked it up online and those are actually cute appliques that come with that. I will have to find that pattern or maybe just order direct from Simplicity to save gas money since the closest store is 30 minutes away.
i love that! the butterfly is such wonderful colors. Great job.

I did make the bows detachable on this outfit, but I don't always do so. It really just depends on the quality and type of ribbon.

I use Embird font engine, so I can use almost any font on my computer for embroidery. This particular font is Honey Script...I think!:o

Thanks srtsiegirl for the info about the font...I don't have embird :( I'm using phaff 3-D artist...I have a babylock machinne...the embroidery only machine but I'm thinking of moving up to the top machine to get the largest design area and have the sewing machine also...my sewing machine is an old Viking I got after HS...anyway, I read that you got a new machine...congrats! With the embird, does it have the wizard that aligns the letters for you? or do you have to import them and align them yourself....

Embird aligns it for me. It can even curve the words and other fancy things with what it calls an envelope.

I see...that is what I would want..don't want to align myself...I have fonts that come with the 3-D artist or I can go to a list of options but don't recall honey script as being on offered...I may have to break done and buy the embird program...I'm also interested in embirds splitting ability...my embroidery field is 5x7 and of course I want bigger! how lg does your machine embroidery up to? my dealer sells phaff and babylock...

Artsie girl! How adorable!!! Do you have a little girl? I see all the handsome young men in the photo. I have a grown daughter I have sewn many prom dresses and formals for greek events in college. I sort of burned myself out, and now have 9, 5, and 3 year old grandaughters. You are all inspiring me to go back to making some "clothing"!

Elaine - I don't have any daughters...just my 2 boys. Most of the things I make (including this dress) are for my niece, Marli Claire. Maybe one day in the future there will be little granddaughters, but I will gladly wait quite a while for that!

Cute! I love doing that pattern because they can wear it in the summer and put a tutleneck under with stretch pants for the winter.
I hope you ladies don't mind me bumping an old thread up, but I found really good instructions to make a totally reversible dress using this pattern.

I'm making it today, using these instructions
