We have been to this italian restaurant, Johnny Romos (sp?) twice now and they put out the bread with olive oil and you dip it with some seasonings. Well, I just bought the dipping set from Pampered Chef and want to know what seasonings I need to put together for this? I would like to make up a bunch and put into a jar for whenever we want it. TIA!

Sorry, I haven't tried Johnny Romos. But we have made some up a few times. You can put crushed garlic in it and other Italian seasonings. Keep in a dark cool place. Watch to make sure that it doesn't get moldy if using garlic.

We eat at a restaurant called Johnny Carinos that has an olive oil dipping sauce with bread. It's one of my absolute favorites, and I've tried to find their recipe. So far this is what I've come up with, but I must tell you that I haven't tried it yet.
2 t. Italian Seasoning
1 c. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 t. dried, roasted garlic
Add the Italian seasoning to the olive oil and allow it to rest for at least one day. Add garlic to a plate, then add olive oil & seasoning mixture.
Let me know if you try it!:)

You are right! That is the name of the restaurant. I couldn't remember if I had it right or not. We have only been there when we went to Gatlinburg and once down at Ft Benning area a couple of months ago. That recipe sounds about right. Thanks!

By the way, you can make your own roasted garlic (I'm not sure how you'd go about drying it) but I've found that dried, roasted garlic on the spice aisle of the grocery store. Seems like I would have tried this by now, huh?

I had never tried dried garlic myself until my Dad and Stepmom were moving to FL and dumped all their kitchen stuff at my house. She had a jar and it's great stuff, but you have to be careful as it's very easy to put too much in. Ask me how I know. LOL
The dipping oil seasonings I've bought from the kitchen stores such as Kitchen Collection and Corning, Revere stores. They have some with parmesan and different seasonings.

I love that stuff. I got a bottle of oil and a container of different seasonings for Christmas. I was so excited. I have never tried to make it though. (The oil we were given was grape seed oil instead of olive oil. I thought that was odd, but it was good.)

Grape seed oil? Oh I bet that was quite confusing to your mouth. Isn't grape seed oil more bitter?

I was really confused to begin with. I had never heard of using grape seed oil, but it was suprisingly good. It is not as mellow or sweet as extra virgin olive oil. I am not sure if the oil was infused with something but it was not bitter at all.

Just did some research on grape seed oil vs olive oil. I think I'll stick to using olive oil because my HDL levels are lower than they should be already, I certainly don't need anything helping to lower them. (In case you are confused the HDL is the GOOD cholesterol)
Polyunsaturated oils have been shown to lower your HDL level. :( Look how high that is in the grapeseed oils.
Grapeseed Oil
Most grapeseed oil comes from Italy, France and Switzerland and is extracted from the seeds of grapes, a byproduct of the wine-making industry.
Predominant Type of Fat: Polyunsaturated
(9% saturated, 15% monounsaturated, 76% polyunsaturated
Olive Oil
A mainstay of the celebrated Mediterranean diet and one of the oldest known culinary oils, olive oil contains predominately heart-friendly monounsaturated fat that supports healthy cholesterol levels.
Predominant Type of Fat: Monounsaturated
(15% saturated, 82% monounsaturated, 3% polyunsaturated)

WOW!!! That is such a huge difference. I think I need to stay away too! My DH and I just lost a total of 100 lbs together since end of December...So the rest of that grape seed oil may have to go away! ;)
