Here is a Hooded Towel we did, the customer brought me the ribbon for a Boy. I was thinking to myself... how can I make this cute for a boy. I looked to see if EMBROIDABLES had anything and they did!
We think it turned out cute! This was an order from my daughters teacher at school! I thought from a school teacher this would be perfect!
What do you think?
The apple design came from the Design Set BACK TO SCHOOL http://www.embroidables.com/store.php?page=product&collection=98.

Oh how cute! As a teacher, I am constantly bombarded with all things apple, but this is great! What an adorable gift, and the recipient will always remember who it came from with that teacher-type design.

It turned out great! I think it's always a bit more challenging when it comes to making boy things.

I am fairly new to sewing/embroiderry, but I'm on fire for it!! Can anyone tell me how to make the hooded towels? I got some of these hooded towels as baby shower gifts a few years ago, and I think I'm ready to try to construct one of my own. Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome Emily!
I posted how to make these in another HOODED TOWEL posting and I will try to find it for you!
I FOUND THEM... Here they are....
I take 1 bath towel and 1/2 hand towel so when I go shopping I buy 2 bath and 1 hand and this will make 2.
I cut the hand towel in half. fold back the finished end of hand about 2 inches or even with the trim/pattern of towel. ADD RIBBON OF CHOICE .... Sew the RAW edges together. (serge or zigzag.
Fold BATH towel in half and mark the center and then sew the hood on the Bath towel. Hope this made it easier for you.
Have fun here and hope to see some of your EMBROIDABLES projects here!
If you have any questions... Vicki (StitchinGrandma) and I Dawn (fun2sew) are Moderators for the board along with Jami and David who are the awesome owners of the board and designs. Please PM us and we will try to help you!

Is there anyway that when you make another one, you could take some step by step pictures? I am slow to catch things until I see what exactly it looks like when you are doing each step. It took me forever to learn how to do those placemat bags correctly!:D

How do you add your location to your post?
Welcome to our little home here Emily. How exciting this is your first message board too. YAY! At least you picked one with the best group of people. We have yet to have any huge arguements or anything here so it's a great place to be.
Check here for two tutorials about how things can be done. I know once you figure out the location thing, you'll be wanting to do a picture too. These threads will help you. (http://www.embroidables.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14)
For your location look at the top in the pink areas of the screen and find "My Account" There you'll find a few things that you can change things on. Look for the one that says "Edit profile" on the page then you'll see where you can add the location and a few other things there. Let me know if you need more help than that.

I put grosgrain ribbon on hooded towels I made for my kids a year and a half ago. The ribbon still looks like new after many washings. Even the ribbon on the hand towels in their bathroom is doing great after all the beatings they take. Ribbon is my friend!

This may be a stupid question, but when you sew ribbon on to a project, what's the best way to sew it so that it stays over time and doesn't curl up? Do you sew one stitch down each edge? And how do you choose which thread color to use on a multicolored ribbon? Do you use that clear thread?

I usually just use a straight stitch along both sides of ribbon. I try to choose a thread color close to the same as the ribbon. If it's multicolored, I think it adds to the uniqueness of the project to have the thread show. Clear thread would work too. Did I answer your question? Maybe someone else can put in their two cents as well. I definately don't have all of the answers but what I've done has worked to my satisfaction.

I just use the closest color that matches to my fibbon.
On my Burps I use clear sometimes, but I think for durablity for the Hoodies I don't use clear.
The Ribbon also holds up pretty good too!
I also use ribbon with the wire in it... I just pull the wire out!
I found some really cute ribbon.

thanks for the idea with pulling out the wire, I was looking online and found some cute ribbon, but it all had wire in it. Off to the craft store after work.

Thanks so much - I've been wanting to embellish with ribbon, but I'm still a beginner - started sewing in August - so I have a lot of stupid questions! Will be trying it soon!

I got about 6 hooded towels for baby shower gifts. Most of them had Embroidrables designs on them-I now appreicate that even more than when I got them. The ribbon and designs are just as crisp & new looking as ever and I've had them for about 3 years.

That towel is just too cute!! I've been making ribbon hooded towels, but I've never embroidered on them. Where are you embroidering? The hood part? I'm gonna have to give this a try. :)
