View Full Version : Need Ideas for Wedding Dress Train fabric
My son is getting married next month. I made my future dil's wedding dress and it has a 25-foot detachable train. After the wedding, I would like to make something from the train fabric. The train is white satin and lined with hot pink satin (yes, hot pink). The girl is crazy about hot pink!! I have come up with only one idea so far -- a tree skirt. I am counting on you wonderful people to help me come up with ideas to use the train fabric. I assume she wants to keep the dress intact, but what, oh what, to do with all the pink and white satin from the train.
Thanks!!

Other than a tree skirt I wonder if you could split the layers of the fabric and then make a really pretty pink and white satin square quilt for their bed. You could embroider their wedding date on there and do some other really pretty designs with the same color of the fabric so it's just raised embroidery matching the color. That could be really pretty. Or put it away and hope when they have thier first child that it's a girl and make an awesome baptismal gown from the fabric.

I agree with Vicki,I would use it for a quilt for them.
I made my son a Lone Star and made her a Double Pinwheel, so I worried that I would have "quilted them out." I may save it and wait to see what comes to me in a moment of inspiration.

I like the idea of a tree skirt or maybe some Christmas stockings. Not sure how the hot pink would mix with Christmas time colors, though.

I also like the idea of using it for Christmas!
Or save it until a little bundle of joy wrapped in pink arrives!

I haven't a clue what to do with all that fabric, but I just want to put in a plea for pictures of that wonderful dress after the wedding. Pleeeease?!

Pleeeeeease, send us a picture. I thought that was understood. We LOVE pictures.
I'm somewhat of a wannabe photographer. I'm taking pictures of her in the dress next weekend on the golf course by our house. It's very pretty with the Colorado mountains in the background, etc. I will post some of the photos asap --- as soon as I figure out how to do it. I've read the instructions here on the site, so I'll give it my best shot. The dress is quite something -- the train is long and the veil is trimmed with pink satin ribbon -- all 30 feet of it. It has over 3,000 Swarovski crystals on it. Thankfully, I have only one child and will not have to make another wedding dress. :-) I did not plan to make a wedding dress, as my only child is a boy, but he "volunteered" me to make the dress and I am honored to do so. Anybody need any leftover hot pink satin? Ha ha ha.

HA! Hot pink satin would be pretty to play with. Have you made her a bridal purse to match her dess with the fabric? I bet she'd LOVE a hot pink wedding purse. I made some gorgeous purses for a wedding a few years ago using a reticule pattern where it was a drawstring top. Yes, I was insane because that truly was one of the first things I tackled upon getting my machine and after at least 5 years of even touching a sewing machine, much less doing embroidery too on the bags. If you haven't you could create a pretty monogram for her and put that on the bag front. Are the other girls in the wedding wearing hot pink dresses by chance? You could make each of them a dress. ;)
Holler if you need help getting pics uploaded and I'll be here to help you out if you have questions.

What if you made them some satin pillowcases and put their new initials on them? Satin is so soft it would be really comfy to sleep on.

I like the Christmas ideas...I've noticed a lot more of the hot pink w/ lime green. Not so traditional, and it sounds like your future DIL is a hoot! Can't wait to see the pictures!

I'm with Emily - I've seen a lot of non-traditional colors in Christmas decorations over the past couple of years. Red and Green don't have to be the only Christmas colors! Go CRAZY! ;) ;) ;)

How about a pink and white dress she can wear afterwards? I also like the idea of a quilt even if satin is hard to work with in that way.
